Four numbers every Canadian mom needs to know before going on leave. ๐
๐ฐ $729/week โ that's the maximum EI benefit in 2026, no matter how much you earn. If your salary is above ~$68,900/year, you're capped.
๐ 55% โ EI replaces 55% of your insurable earnings on the standard plan. On the extended plan it drops to 33% โ but you get up to 69 weeks instead of 40.
๐ 69 weeks โ the extended parental leave plan allows up to 69 weeks shared between both parents. Most families don't know this option exists.
๐งพ ~10% tax withheld โ EI is taxable income, but only about 10% is withheld at source. Depending on your total income for the year, you could owe a significant amount come tax season.
Planning ahead makes a huge difference. Maternly's free EI calculator gives you your exact personalized numbers in under 2 minutes. ๐ฟ

Before the baby arrives, every Canadian mom is quietly building the same invisible system from scratch:
EI forms. HR conversations. Top-ups. CCB. SIN registration. Pediatrician search. Family doctor waitlists. Pelvic floor physio (often not OHIP-covered). Postpartum mental health. Hospital bag. Birth plan. Childcare waitlists (joined at 12 weeks pregnant, apparently). RESP. Return-to-work plan.
And that's before the baby arrives.
It's not that moms aren't capable. It's that the system expects you to be a benefits expert, an HR coordinator, a medical researcher, and a new parent โ all at once.
So we pulled it into one place. Maternly is built for Canadian moms, by a mom who's lived this
