Toast is a cornerstone of British cuisine. Toast ranks originated in Great Britain around the 1770s and were designed to keep the freshly toasted bread crispy by holding the slices upright and apart, preventing them from becoming soggy due to rising steam. Originally, these stands were a luxurious silver table accessory of the Victorian eras; in the 19th century, they reached the height of their popularity as an integral part of the elaborate English breakfast. To dispose of any crumbs that fell, there is considered to use a fitting plate or chose one of those toast rank versions with a base as separate directly. The series “Found Treasures – Objects and Oddities” presents both second-hand items found by chance and objects that I have researched for projects, clients, and friends. Particularly striking here is my special preference for objects made of metal and the interplay of function and decoration. Project: "Found Treasures – Objects and Oddities"; 2026

The harmonious silhouette of these small stemmed glasses makes one overlook their seemingly wide stems—especially since the “pulled stem” construction is a traditional glassmaking technique that offers extra stability. Bormioli Rocco is usually the manufacturer of these liqueur glasses. At times, however, they could also be found under the product name SVALKA from the Swedish manufacturer IKEA. "With the American version [of the sugar shaker], a spoon serves as the dispenser. In the meantime, access to the contents of the container remains closed off by the flap." Manufacturer: FACKELMANN @fackelmann_welt Project: "Found Treasures – Objects and Oddities"; 2026

In addition to the European sugar dispensers with a dispensing tube, the American version with a dispensing flap is also quite popular in restaurants and cafes. Anyone who has spent a summer on the patio of their favorite café and seen swarms of wasps buzzing around the European sugar dispenser knows exactly what I’m talking about. That’s because this particularly greedy insect crawls into the container via the dispenser tube and rolls around in the sugar until it’s dispensed by the next clueless customer. With the American version, a spoon serves as the dispenser. In the meantime, access to the contents of the container remains closed off by the flap. A German manufacturer’s decision to offer this sugar shaker in miniature was a wonderful idea — even if some restaurant guests initially mistake it for salt. After all, FACKELMANN markets the shaker in its product line as a “universal shaker.” What more is there to say? The world of miniatures is vast. This small milk jug made of polished stainless steel has no handle or recessed grip and holds 0.03 liters. When it is brought to the table and guests pour milk into their coffee with a small gesture, it brings a little smile to their faces. This menage set is made of two materials: stainless steel and glass. Thanks to the very short thread length of the two shaker lids, they can be opened very easily without any crunching grains. It has been in use since 2019 and is still used today in a small local restaurant for which I purchased it at the time. Brass comes and goes with fashion. This vintage ring holder in the shape of a cat is a frequently seen motif. Only when mounted on a carrier plate can the object hold many rings, including large ones. Project: "Found Treasures – Objects and Oddities"; 2026 Assembly of figure and plate by Jessica Bruni

This ring holder ballerina does not usually spin. Nevertheless, it may remind you of a jewelry box with a music box, where a tiny ballerina figure spins around its own axis. Project: "Found Treasures – Objects and Curiosities"; 2026 #vintage #ringholder #jewerly

One of the vintage oddities that are always nice to look at are ring holder figures mounted on pedestal plates - especially when they are covered with jewelry. #vintage #jewellry #ringholder #oddities
