🦴AFTER MATTER explores how cellulose fibers from fashion waste streams can be utilized for interior spatial settings in retail design or installations. With textile production generating 1.2 billion metric tons of CO2 annually and over 100 million tons of waste, the project addresses overproduction and missed opportunities for material recovery. AFTER MATTER is a craft manifesto, an exploration of the tensions between speed and slowness, automation and handwork, synthetic and natural. It shows the value of craft as a transformative practice, celebrating the value of imperfection in materials and restoring value to overlooked handmade processes. Within the project, ancient papermaking techniques are used to transform discarded cotton and linen fabric into translucent, structural forms—merging function with artistic expression, and highlighting creative opportunities for a more circular and poetic approach to making. 🪑 ‘A hole in a whole’, last year’s final project of the Master in Beyond Projects by Sofia Leon, sees beauty in the disposable and usefulness in the unused. This project encourages people to join materials and objects with infinite possibilities of transformation. It began as a project of interest in the discarded furniture that was on the streets of Barcelona, in which not only the identity of the materials and objects that were found was printed but also the identity and personality of how and in which neighborhood they were found. 🌿 ‘Biocharged’, the ongoing project by Fenna Kosfeld, is a Material Research Project with a focus on Biochar as a regenerative and bioremediating material. It addresses the carbon-nutrient cycle by turning organic waste into biochar and charging it with abundant urine residues as a nutrient-rich charge to enhance soil quality and plant resilience. At the same time, it is a material that fosters active crafting and regenerative making. 🔩 How can tactile-focused product design enhance sensory awareness and reduce body dissociation? ‘In Touch’ is a deep investigation into the search for body connection through touch. Through research and experimentation, this project explores how touch shapes our physical and emotional selves - how it connects us to materials, objects, and ultimately to our own bodies. It’s a study of the tangible and intangible traces touch leaves behind. 🦠’Seaglass’, by Paolina Kühr, is the firs bio-sourced glass ever made. This glass, obtained from glass-producing microalgae, this material is made by a carbon capturing process due to the highly photosynthetic activity of the microalgae. Microalgaes are the most efficient photosynthetic organisms on Earth, capable of absorbing up to 50 times more CO2 per square than forests. Made from 90% microalgae silica, Seaglass retains the properties of traditional glass while requiring less energy to melt. This new material opens doors to a future where materials are not extracted, but grown. 🌳 ‘Materia C’ the final project of the Master in Beyond Products by Clara Videtta, is a research project based on the cyclical principles of energy in nature. Its mission is to revalue materials considered waste, using the fruit of the Plátanos X hispánica tree as a raw material. Through simple processes, it demonstrates how these wastes can become valuable resources, creating a new cycle of sustainable energy. 🧶 ‘Epoch’, Louise & Louis final project from the Master in Beyond Products, aims to spark conversations on sustainability and cultural preservation in a rapidly changing world. By juxtaposing wool’s rustic essence with industrial metal, the project highlights the tension between past and present. Beyond commemorating a fading way of life, this installation changes society to reevaluate the worth of natural resources and traditional practices. The sculptures, which are movable and detachable, were created through cutting, welding, oxidizing and sanding to achieve an organic texture. students: Louise Zanartu and Louis Boudart (@atelierlouiselouis ) Project: ‘Epoch’ Master in Beyond Products (@beyondproducts.elisava ) #Elisava #Design #Materials #BeyondProducts

🌳 ‘(So Natural) Objects’ is a project that explores the relationship between the environment, consumerism, and human behavior. In this project, Shao En Hsu observed common consumable items and materials in daily life, especially how they interact with human behavior and the environment to produce “natural” results. The project aims to explore the hidden aesthetics of consumption and human behavior that reflects future and society. Shao believes that these packages and objects are not just remnants of materials, but silent metaphors of human activity. From this spontaneous forms, Shao designed three different concepts of artifacts that “look like chairs”. 🥚 Utilizing eggshell membrane waste in the home interior industry is how ‘Conscious Surfacess: eggshell membrane ceramic’ was born. In the realm of material creation, there is a remarkable power in delving deep into the inherent properties of a material in its raw form. By embracing mono materiality, the focus shifts to utilizing a single material to its fullest potential, uncovering its hidden qualities and unlocking new possibilities. This project is a healthy materials project valorizing the Humble Eggshell Membrane. 🧠 “No emotion happened for nothing”, the slogan for the final project of the master in Design through New Materials, from YenChen Lee. Emotions persist throughout time, yet often we are unable to consciously perceive the varied range of emotions such as joy, anger, sorrow, and happiness. The profound sentiment experienced during significant moments deserves to be meticulously documented. This project ia to visualize the emotions. Everyone could aware their emotions through the test, and could also do the test continuously to track their state of mind. To record, to memorize these emotions, and have your own special “MoodLand”.
