🌿 Who is Maté Mamí?
Maté Mamí is the name of our small business. We are Lindsey Ubeda & Isaac Sanabria, first generation Paraguayan-Americans born and raised in New York.
There has always been a strong Paraguayan community in New York. From a young age, every Sunday we would go to “La Cancha” (s/o to FDR State Park) where our community would gather, play soccer and sip on Maté Cocido. It became a weekly tradition.
🌿 What does Maté Mamí mean to us?
Maté Mamí would mean representing a part of our culture, our traditions and who we are as Paraguayans. The act of brewing & consuming Maté Cocido represents community, sharing and valuing the present moment. Waking up to the smell of the Cocido always brings us comfort and sparks memories of our childhood.
In Paraguay, it was often our mothers and abuelas brewing the Maté Cocido for the household. They taught us well the methods that go into making a tasty pot and we are grateful every day for it!
🌿 Why Maté Cocido?
Over the past few years, we’ve shared our recipe of Mate Cocido with friends and have received nothing but good-constructive feedback. We finally decided we want to expand and introduce our method with more than just our inner circle.
Paraguayans are often underrepresented and we hope to shed some light on who we are and the beautiful country that our ancestors came from.
Thank you to those who have read up to this point and hope you join us on this exciting new journey!
