Few artists successfully transcend multiple music categories, exposing their influences and roots while flavoring our senses with the sights and sounds of their culture. Sergio Mendes, who passed away yesterday at the age of 83, was such a musician. I'll never forget the first time his version of Jorge Ben's "Mais Que Nada" swam through my radio, thinking, "What is this incredible sound?!" His impact on the musical landscape is massive, and "that's not nothing."
One of my favorite things about mastering records is developing a high level of trust with the artist. Working closely with their music through the years, and always exceeding their expectations, never gets old. Such was the case with @whitesnake 's new collection, “Into the Light,” to be released on vinyl, Oct. 25, 2024. Thanks to @rhino_records for pressing David’s solo material, ensuring it sees the light of day.
On the heels of the television and movie industries coming to terms with streaming accreditation, @applemusic is now requiring artist credit listings for all new music uploads. These "Contributor Representation" requirements are a big step in the right direction, and we applaud @apple for taking the lead on this subject. I've loved the music of @james_maddock_ since 2000, when we did "Songs from Stamford Hill" together. Mastering that album, and his excellent "The Green," were two experiences I'll always cherish. Constant touring since then has helped James become a go-to performer on the singer/songwriter circuit.
