For the very first live show we are thrilled to welcome you at BAR40. This space has progressed into a spot for the bizarre and beautiful. From tiny office to sanitary dump to an intimate bar. A place that likes to adapt, just like Global Dance Suspense.
Back in 2020, Derozan began a radio residency called Global Dance Suspense at Stranded FM in Utrecht. The idea of the show came as a way to experiment with non-Western music that fringes our world. Global Dance Suspense captures the emotional rawness of sound with an idiosyncratic approach. Skewing away from popular Western music, GDS manages to uncover suspenseful dance rhythms and complexities by world building and in depth research into the format.

💥🪡🧵💥Come join us for a denim sewing workshop centered around repairing your own garments of emotional value. Seeing clothing as a physical extension of our identity and lived experience, we want to provide an opportunity to learn how to fix and revive old pieces – mending the material to preserve the sentimental. As we evolve, we allow our clothes to evolve with us instead of discarding them.
Wednesday’s workshop will be mentored by @7omotto , a denim specialist currently studying fashion at the Royal Academy of Antwerp. The session focuses on hand- and machine-sewing methods, exploring techniques such as Japanese patchworking. Tom will bring his personal jeans to share how you can add storytelling value to your clothes via repairs and enhancements.💥💥
Our Thursday’s mentor is @ariannaandela , a recent graduate of the Jeanschool who specializes in upcycling old clothes and scrap fabrics. Arianna’s primary interest is denim, as she appreciates how a good pair of jeans ages with the wearer. Her practice aims to extend the life of clothing by using Japanese mending techniques or completely repurposing garments into something new.💥💥

We madly invite you to celebrate with us the opening of Mad Society’s new exhibition at Stichting ZAMEN called “THIS IS THE ONLY THING I GOT LEFT,” a space to share personal stories through clothing items of sentimental value. The collaborative exhibition provides a platform for people who cross paths in their day-to-day lives but don’t often get to hear each other.
People of Amsterdam Noord will bring the clothes they’d never throw away because of the stories and memories around them. Our goal is to create a shared space where diverse backgrounds and life stories intersect, allowing everyone to find connections and experience shared emotions.
