Too much Simenon, or not enough?
Georges Simenon sold over 500 million books—and somehow still feels underrated.
He’s often labeled a crime writer, but that’s not really what he is. In most of his novels, you already know (or quickly learn) who committed the crime.
The tension isn’t what happened.
It’s why—and what it does to a person.
His books are psychological, quiet, and unsettling. They follow people as they rationalize, unravel, and live with what they’ve done—or failed to do.
I go into used bookstores and ask for Simenon, and more than once I’ve heard: “We had a bunch, but someone came in and bought all of them.”
Which makes sense. That’s exactly what I do.
If you’re new to him, start with:
– The Snow Was Dirty
– The Man Who Watched Trains Go By
– The Hand
If you liked Nothing But the Beast, this is very much the same territory.

Happy Halloween In April! We’re be joined by friend of the show Andrew Schrader who just dropped a new novel!
Tonight’s festive holiday movie is a b-movie horror classic...featuring an actor from Barton Fink. OooOoOoo. Which actor could it be? And in how big of a role? I don’t know about you, but just thinking about it chills me to my very core!
Plus more Finish Freddy, another Weekcliff In Heathcliff and who even KNOWS what else... don’t miss it!
This book follows the story of Macy. One day her drunk husband comes home, falls in the snow and she does not help him into the house. Macy has a past and her inaction may have consequences for her. You must read to find out.
The ending of this book was everything and not what I expected at all. I loved the authors writing and story telling and descriptions. I was captivated from the first page through the last. I will definitely be reading more from this author.
I rated this book 4.5/5

Nothing but the Beast
Release Date: April 15, 2026
Genre: Psychological Suspense/ Thriller
Macy Miller had always done what was expected.
Until the night she didn’t.
By morning, her husband lies in a coma, the neighbors are whispering, and the past she buried won’t stay down. As the routines of daily life resume, Macy struggles to maintain the careful order she’s built on silence and conformity.
Nothing But the Beast is a literary psychological novel about complicity, self-deception, and the quiet horror of self-recognition, as a woman comes to realize that the most dangerous thing she feared was never outside her door.
