Common Ground welcomes you to 𝘧𝘭𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘮𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘣𝘦... on Sunday May 24 🌾 This is the first activation of 𝘍𝘭𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘔𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘉𝘦 𝘊𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘱, an installation that becomes a learning space, and a work site. We begin with a question: must flour be cheap? From there, we let it unfold through stories, bodies, knowings, and speculations—these become the curriculum. Above us, a constellation of collected flour bags. Beneath us, sacks holding the weight of hunger, of resistance, of distance traveled from field to mill to bakery to hand. We’ll lie with that weight, carry it, rearrange it, and feel what it does to the body, how pressure grounds us, how heaviness speaks through us. Together we’ll move through conversations about food systems, mills and grain, food autonomy, aid, and famine, and the quiet violence of a price that was never really just about the mere cost of flour. The second installment of 𝘧𝘭𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘮𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘣𝘦... will be on June 28, more information about this very soon! Bring your stories, questions, and hands, and join this learning session with Common Ground! 𝘧𝘭𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘮𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘣𝘦... learning sessions 📍 W139 📆24 May & 28 June 2026 🕐 15:30–17:30 Visual identity by @farahfayyad 𝘧𝘭𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘮𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘣𝘦... is part of 𝘸𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘳, 𝘧𝘭𝘰𝘶𝘳, 𝘴𝘰𝘪𝘭, a group show initiated by @mariakhatchadourian and on view at W139 until 12 July 2026.

Tiny things carried inside of bigger things and gathered on surfaces: a constant that plagues my life in the best way possible. Bags, bikes, carrier baskets. Oats, Oo Oo and little Oom.

The feeling of not knowing weighs on me like the heavy machinery that seems to stop the plane from flying as we’re stationed on the ground. But this very machinery is the one that catapults the aircraft into the sky, perhaps in a more calculated move than the one my heart does inside my ribcage. If I put my hand on my chest, though, I can feel the tiny explosions, combustions and fires that are keeping the plane off the ground. I guess it’s all about transition, and at some point I will find myself back on earth ~

when i moved to the netherlands i started looking for a mortar and pestle right away, this being the most important tool in my kitchen. everything i found here was made of stone and that just wouldn't do. i was sure if i found the right one, yellow and green ceramic with a wooden pestle, i could magically transport back home like dorothy clicking her red shoes three times. what i could find, very readily available, was allioli chovi. this brand of allioli is made in the outskirts benifaió, a town in la ribera alta, south of valència. the packaging of the dip imitates the ceramic mortar from manises i grew up with. a taste of home, of course, but not close enough. i kept seeing it everywhere i went, the yellow and green plastic taunting me at every corner store i walked into. what follows is a very specific and targeted goose chase between me and this tool, a fever dream materialised in allioli chovi. 1. morter i mà de morter at my parents house in valència, the one i grew up with 2. chovi at a brunch in samira's old house in de pijp 3. chovi at a potluck lunch at fafu, a very common occurrence since everybody at the studio loves chovi 4. chovi at a dinner in the first house i lived in, in hoofddorppleinbuurt 5. chovi being sold at an avondwinkel in des baarsjes. the picture was taken on the 9th of october, national day of the valencian country. it was midnight. andrea, lorenzo and i were out biking and we stopped here for a drink and a snack 6. a mortar I found outside a thrift shop next to mevius. this was the first time i saw the real mortar since i started looking more than a year before. to my surprise, it was being used as an ashtray 7. a valencian mortar in an organic food store in de pijp. ott found it shortly after I showed him the one in the thrift shop and bought it for me. it still feels a bit off but it's the closest thing i found to home
