Abbey Road is now complete. Designed around a high performance SIP frame with MVHR, ASHP, solar panels, battery storage and high levels of air-tightness. Grateful to the client, design team, suppliers and the contractor, it’s been a real pleasure to deliver this scheme together.

Appeal Granted ✅
Over the past few years we have been working closely with the clients on the remodelling of their existing house and the wider potential of the site. Following that earlier approval, planning permission has now been secured at appeal for a new self-build home within the lower paddock.
Set within the Nidderdale National Landscape, the proposal required a careful and measured response to both landscape and planning context. The house has been designed as a low-profile single-storey building, intended to sit quietly within the contours of the site and alongside the existing settlement.
A thoughtful outcome for fantastic clients, and an important next step for the project as a whole.

Some photos from our recently completed project in the Nidderdale National Landscape. The design connects directly to the house with a covered walkway which frames the view over the Vale of York towards the Howardian hills and the white horse at Kilburn (on a clear day). The thermally modified timber cladding is ‘Ayous’ which has almost no knots which gives a very uniform appearance.

This dressing area was designed around the wardrobes - fitted furniture can be expensive. Turns out it’s more cost effective for the building to be fitted to the joinery. Likewise, there are no tile cuts for the wet room shower tray, again it’s easier to coordinate this beforehand.

Project (almost) Complete ✅
Another project which I’ve been excited to see take shape, a comprehensive remodel of a mid century bungalow. The project reimagines the entrance and converts the main living spaces to fully open-plan.
We had fun with the design process using VR and interactive 3D models using #bimx and I think it shows. I really appreciated the client’s brief, from using unconventional materials to improving the performance and functionality of the whole house. Hats off to them too for undertaking such a project! It’s not for the faint hearted.

After a very busy summer I’ve finally managed to catch up on some completed projects. Just before Christmas it was lovely to catch up with clients who’ve settled into their newly remodelled kitchen living area.
The brief seemed simple but the challenge was to maximise the space available and to reuse as much of the existing materials and features as possible. The material for the fieldstone walls was selected from the neighbouring farmland, the existing sash windows and oak door were carefully repurposed. It’s great to see the clients take ownership of the design and develop some really fun details (can you spot the secret door?).

This outline scheme redefines an overlooked entrance to the settlement, creating a new neighbourhood that sits comfortably within its rural setting. The design responds to the local conservation area context and the historic character of the village and adjoining estate, which extends over some 2,000 acres. Its layout, landscape and materials are guided by the nature of the existing village, the proposals seek to establish a place with its own identity.

Planning permission has been submitted for a new self-build home located in the Nidderdale National Landscape. The single-storey pavilion comprises two natural stone wings linked by internal courtyards, optimising daylight and framing views over the countryside.
