*FANCY* brooch by Sylvie Altschuler (who is mysteriously somewhere on Instagram but I can’t find her) purchased from Galerie Noël Guyomarc’h, in sterling silver, diamantés and cardboard.
If you ever needed a laugh or an outfit pick-me-up, this is it! I got a lot of great smiles, laughs and comments like, “I’m a friend of Sylvie’s and she’d love to see you wearing it!” this Munich Jewellery Week.
I especially love how it covers any logo on your clothes and inherently rebrands you, not to mention declaring any outfit *FANCY*
This photo does NOT do it justice.
Thank you, Sylvie! #sylviealtschuler #contemporaryjewellery #brilliant #fancy

This mini exhibition “Potential Sites” of five handmade and hand stitched propeller caps by Phoebe Beard was a great surprise and terrific body of work to see in Craft Victoria’s Vitrine Gallery in their entryway.
Hand assembled with extensive stitching and hand made propeller structures based on Darrieus, Giromill and Savonius turbines, the hats individually refer to plastic recycling and metal mines that have direct roles in wind turbine energy production and use across Australia.
Nice to see a cohesive, rigorous series of contemporary craft pieces that combines techniques, concepts and humour while transcending the usual “practices” - is it rooted in textile, fashion or jewellery? Does the body activate it, or the weather?
Bravo Phoebe! A powerful group of works if you’ll indulge the pun.
(exhibition ends 28Feb, you might be just in time!)

VISITING MILAN, ITALY: A drop-in with Chris Massey @masseyattack
A neckpiece made out of a shredded Vogue magazine and hair extensions.
It’s one of the many pieces made by Chris that upcycles discarded items.
The neckpiece plays with the transformative potential of the magazine—caress your face with the hair and you will enhance your beauty.
There’s also a ruff made from plastic bags and beauty products.
And a brooch from a bike reflector and a vaping case.
Chris is an American who studied jewelry in Australia and now lives in Milan.
So great to hang out with you, Chris!

Did a fantastic masterclass this June with Manuel Vilhena (and many patient Portuguese speakers while I practiced some language skills) during the Lisbon Jewellery Biennial. He led us through a number of exercises to refine our jewellery and creative thinking to bring us towards a sort of individual social mission statement.
Working on “My jewellery is the possibility of… ending prejudice”, I plaited together local Lisbon calçada/ paving stones, having noticed that they are in fact a range of skin tones!
