"Xacio Baño’s new feature, After the Cities, is an experimental essay film presenting the city of Santiago de Compostela through the eyes of the other, an elusive capital encountered through correspondence in the 21st century. Abstract travelogues unfold within letters, postcards, text messages and handwritten notes, blurring the intimate and the public. Unknown people read aloud from these various texts, transforming personal messages into shared reflections, while dreamlike travel writing and notes offer poetic observations of space and memory, as a father journeys abroad while corresponding with his daughter at home." Queremos agradecer y mandar un caluroso saludo a todes les participantes. Un total de 79 producciones de más de 13 países. Ha sido una labor difícil, con obras de gran nivel y muy diversas, pero que también nos hizo disfrutar, aprender y emocionarnos con las historias de la región.
En nuestra deliberación no solo ha influido la calidad de las obras, las necesidades económicas o la diversidad, hemos valorado también que puedan destacar en el complicado circuito de festivales y que sean consecuentes con nuestra linea editorial.
Animamos efusivamente a les cineastas a continuar, deseando mantener el contacto para ver sus carreras evolucionar. Esperamos volver a convocar una 2ª edición de la Beca a finales de año. ¡Viva el cine-corto latinoamericano!
