Maltese mezzo-soprano @marvicmonreal has made history as the first Maltese opera singer to perform at the iconic Palais Garnier in Paris, marking a major milestone for Maltese talent on one of the world’s most prestigious stages. Earlier this season, Monreal made her debut with the Opéra National de Paris at the Opéra Bastille, where she appeared as Grimgerde in Richard Wagner’s Die Walküre. The production was directed by Calixto Bieito and conducted by Pablo Heras-Casado. She later performed at the renowned Palais Garnier in Eugene Onegin by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The production also marks the operatic directorial debut of acclaimed actor and director Ralph Fiennes, with musical direction by Semyon Bychkov and Case Scaglione.The production is set to be released in cinemas later this year. For the opening night premiere, Monreal wore a bespoke gown by Maltese designer @azzopardi.studio . The piece, titled Smoking Robe from Azzopardi’s AW2026 Venus in Furs collection, was specially created for the occasion. Monreal’s appearance at the historic Paris opera house represents a significant moment for Maltese artists performing on the international classical music stage.
