This year marks Yuichiro Shibata’s 80th year — and we’re gathering to celebrate his life, work, and lasting impact on New York’s art history.
3:30-4:30pm, Sunday 12 October 2025
Step inside Shibata’s midtown loft, preserved much as it was in the ’70s and now opening for what may be one of its final evenings. Shibata, among the first wave of contemporary Japanese artists to make NYC home, has spent decades weaving philosophy, geometry, and a Japanese sensibility into paintings that feel both cosmic and deeply human.
At 3:30 PM, journalist, art dealer, gallery owner, and old friend, Marina Hadley will lead a special walkthrough and talk on Shibata’s life and work, offering a personal perspective on his artistic journey and enduring legacy.
Expect talks, food, drinks, new friends — and a chance to acquire works directly from the artist’s family. This may be one of the final opportunities to visit the loft before it closes for good.
Space is limited — RSVP required, link in bio
