I’m so glad @shitonya_dreams gave me the opportunity to do this act at the incredible @themidnightchannelcabaret with a ghastly gaggle of glorious ghouls.
I’ve been wanting to do an act based on this myth for a while: Marsyas, the satyr punished for hubris, my namesake and spiritual ancestor 🐐
I’ve written a short horror story based on the myth, I’ve referenced it in my poetry, out of the many myths that make up my special interest I have a particular fixation in this one. In the myth having his skin ripped from his still-living flesh is obviously a punishment, but I think there’s something powerfully transformative and transcendent about peeling away the outer artifice and revealing something true and raw beneath. What some people think of as a curse is a gift 🎁

Okay doing a post because it’s a year since I properly started drag and it’s a convenient excuse to post pics from my NADC heat I completely forgot to share - long post below if you wanna hear an old goat ramble.
So, it’s been a year since I first stepped onto stage in this incarnation of animal instinct and chaos. And that year, in full honesty that doesn’t always fit Instagram, has been full of some hard contradictions. I’ve made a lot less than art than I’ve wanted to, but more than I have for a while. I’ve really struggled connecting with people, but I’ve also had moments of feeling so strongly in community with those around me. It’s been a year of less ritual and magic than I’m used to, but also a lot more love. I think performing for the first time a year ago made me realise how hungry I was, and I want to do it all!
Not to say I’ve not done anything in the last year ofc! I’ve done a couple of shows here and there, with some truly amazing performers who I have been honoured and delighted to share rooms and stage with. Thank you to everyone who has been in any cabaret space with me in any capacity the last year, I know I can be a lot. Of course the highlight for me had to be having an absolute blast performing in the heats at NADC twice (I’m actually pleased they’re taking a break so I have more time to grow).
And I’ve grown a fair amount in the last year, for sure, but I’ve still got a lot of growing to do! I’m hoping in the next year to do a lot more Art, and I may even remember to share it. I wanna develop some tasty tasty skills so I’m looking at dance classes and burlesque workshops to rly get into this body (if any of y’all have recommendations pls let me know!!). I also absolutely need to continue practicing makeup - still feels like puberty atm, the face is still settling. Beyond that I’m also looking at getting back into theatre more, my first love: writing and dramaturgy and directing - hopefully going to launch an insta for that under @maryfoxxwrites if anyone’s interested. Basically next year’s gonna be a big year for me! Because I said so. So there.

It’s nonbinary awareness day so I thought I’d make you all aware of me for a change, rather than lurking in the shadows of strange and far-flung forests 🌲
Anyone I’ve talked to for more than half a second knows I’ve been on a whole journey with gender and sexuality, and anyone who’s seen me perform can probably tell being half-human half-animal is probably a bit of a metaphor for something 🧐
Outside of drag I normally present more feminine, while Mars was initially a masculine reflection of that. More and more with both, I find myself moving to the in between spaces. The above pic is from my most recent performance, immediately after trans pride, with the lovely @savethewarehouses
At the end of the day, as you can see, I’m just having fun with it 🎉💅🧚♂️
