Blackboard Jungle uit Rouen (FR) is sinds 1994 een vaste kracht binnen de Europese
soundsystemcultuur. Wat begon als een 100% reggae-radioshow groeide uit tot één van de
meest imposante soundsystems van Europa.
Met Nico (selector), MC Oliva aka Rootical45 en Guillaume (boxman) brengen ze roots &
militant reggae van de jaren ’70 tot hedendaagse dub steppa, aangevuld met exclusieve
dubplates en eigen producties van hun label en studio.
Al meer dan 20 jaar reizen ze de wereld rond langs toonaangevende dub-events en
festivals, gedreven door de Rastafari-boodschap van peace, love & unity.
Elke sessie is uniek. Zware bassen, diepe effecten en een ervaring die je zowel fysiek als
mentaal raakt.
Mark “Marky Lyrical” Mahoney is een reggae-zanger uit Sutton (Canada) met een krachtige
stem en een heldere missie. Al van jongs af aan gegrepen door conscious reggae, brengt hij
zijn eigen frisse sound terwijl hij de fundamenten van het genre trouw blijft.
Met diepe lyrische meditaties en een bezielde podiumprésence zingt hij over liefde, eenheid
en maatschappelijke bewustwording. Zijn muziek wil meer dan bewegen — ze wil helen,
versterken en verbinden.
Marky Lyrical neemt je mee naar die plek waar reggae niet alleen klinkt, maar écht iets in

Blackboard Jungle is a collective from Rouen, founded in 1994 through a radio show dedicated to promoting Jamaican culture and reggae music. After the show, they expanded into events, writing, and live sessions, eventually building their own sound system inspired by UK legends like Jah Shaka and Aba Shanti I.
They became active across France and Europe, hosting key artists and developing their signature roots and steppas sound with exclusive dubplates and in-house productions. Now established as a sound system, label, and crew, they continue spreading reggae’s message of unity and love. They are today one of France’s most renowned sound systems.
Marky Lyrical, aka Mark Mahoney, is a Canadian artist from London, Ontario, deeply influenced by reggae icons like Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, and Steel Pulse. From his early bands to the project Inword, he built a strong reputation through albums and international performances.
He gained wider recognition with Run Run Run, released on Fire Connections Records, produced by Humble Rumble Sound System and Chouette Records, with contributions from Jamie Woods, Ashanti Selah, Jerry Lionz, Petah Sunday and Manasseh.

This week on Reggae Townships Radio, we welcome Fyah Mikes with a 100% Xterminator vinyl selection from his personal collection.
A key figure in the Montréal reggae scene, Selecta Fire Mikes (aka Jah Mikes) has been collecting records and deejaying reggae for over 25 years. Resident at Blizzarts on the Plateau from 2001 to 2006, he was part of Montréal’s longest-running weekly reggae night and has also played venues and events such as Sala Rossa’s, The Goods, Mystic Mountain Reggae Bash, Blue Dog, and Pub Quartier Latin, among others. After nearly two decades digging for records in Montréal, Toronto, New York, and Kingston, Jamaica, he built an impressive collection focused on conscious lyrics and foundation rhythms. He continues sharing his passion through his mixes online.
