2007 flieht ein 9-jähriger Junge vor dem Bürgerkrieg im heutigen Südsudan und landet in einem kenianischen Flüchtlingslager. Dort lebt er viele Jahre, bis man sein Lauftalent erkennt und ihn schließlich ins Athlete Refugee Team beruft. 2019 startet der Junge, inzwischen ein Mann, bei seinem ersten internationalen Rennen in Genf – und gewinnt. Doch anstatt seinen Sieg zu feiern, setzt er sich vom Team ab und beantragt in der Schweiz Asyl. Heute ist Dominic Lobalu einer der weltweit besten Langstreckenläufer und hält, obwohl er noch kein Schweizer Staatsbürger ist, die eidgenössischen Rekorde über 3000 und 5000 Meter.
