When my grandfather, David Mark, left Germany with my grandmother, dad, and aunt and immigrated to Boston in 1950 he didn’t have much. You wouldn’t know that from looking at his family. Dressed to the nines in handmade tailoring, David Mark knew the impact of dressing the part in his new life. Through the 50s my grandfather, the original Mark The Tailor, was grinding out long hours tailoring suits for Jordan Marsh, Mosher’s, and Sid Segel’s tuxedo shops. In 1960 he finally saved up enough money to open up shop on his own. Mark the Tailor opened in the iconic Motor Mart Garage building and my grandfather tailored clothes and made custom garments for his loyal customers til the day he passed away far too early in 1969.
I’ll forever be called Mark but @britishgq and @scottfrasercollection can call me whatever they want. The gift for guys with taste: the Park Place Pullover.

Patrick wears my personal favorite Stowe Cargos in washed organic hemp-cotton canvas, our signature Statler Shirt in a new classic blue bengal stripe perfect for spring (and all seasons), and our heavyweight cotton tee (milled, knit, cut, and sewn right here in the U.S.), all from the newest collection.
Honored to be in great company. Go check out the collection and the insane curation of brands from Patrick and his team.

Park Square, Boston, 1962
My grandfather first opened his tailor shop in 1960 in the Motor Mart Garage. His shop was next door to George The Barber, run by an outgoing Greek guy who took my grandfather under his wing (and cut his hair on the house).
He had business coming from all around the neighborhood - traveling salesmen staying at the Statler Hotel, the family-owned Sarni Cleaners across the street, and his growing book of customers coming from all over Boston for his tailoring expertise. Over the summers, my dad worked as a parking attendant at the Hertz (still there), driving cars up and down the famously narrow parking ramps.
So much has changed, yet so much has stayed the same.

We talked with @nickelcobalt —writer, creative jack-of-all-trades, and the brains behind @thebengalstripe —on his grandfather’s haberdashery, the early days of #menswear, and how it all informs his distinct style today.
