🚨Allow me to reintroduce myself to the newbies…🚨 I’m Mark and I’m heavy into marrying folk. I’ve been a celebrant with Humanist Society Scotland since 2018. As well as weddings I do the occasional funeral and sometimes I’ve been known to do naming ceremonies as well. I live in Coatbridge with my wife Leigh-Anne and our dependant, Edith. Alongside celebrancy I work full time and I’m a mental health social worker to trade. At the moment I work part of the week as an MHO (IYKYK) and the other half I work at a university in Glasgow. So aye, life can get pretty busy and as such my social media presence is piss poor. I’m big into posting and ghosting. You’ve been warned. Also, my admin response time is sometimes absolutely shite - but I always respond to emails eventually. So please, if you want to talk to me about a wedding/ funeral/ naming/ night out … it’s best to email me. 🚨This is a bit of a personal/ vulnerable post from me but here we go. 🚨 As you might know, I turned 40 last year and this was a milestone which led me to make some major changes in how I live my life. One of the biggest was that after years of denial I was finally ready to admit that I was, in fact, a wearer and lover of crocs. It started with a plain pair but things soon escalated. I upgraded to a psychedelic fur lined pair - but there was still a croc based itch that I just couldn’t scratch. I bought some headlights, which were cool, but I still felt that there was something missing. Then it hit me. I realised what I - nae, the world - was missing…….. Mark the Humanist JIBBITZ!! And thanks to the wonder of the internet, that’s just what I’ve taken delivery of. So, if you’re a croc wearing wedding couple or supplier and want to have a crude drawing of MY face on YOUR feet …. Just like The Proclaimers, I can tell the difference between margarine and butter. I can also say “Saskatchewan” without starting to stutter - which is handy because Steph and Luke came over from Regina SK 🇨🇦 to get married in Oran Mor last weekend. It was a mix of Canada, Cumbernauld, Nashville, custom made cowboys hats and Swiftie inspired vows - and it was an absolute joyous riot of a day. You know how I’ve got loads of merch with my face on it? I’m talking, keyrings, jibbitz, stickers and greeting cards … the whole shooting match. And at the end of every wedding I usually put a few bits of the merch in an envelope and post it with the other cards from guests. Let’s just say that it’s a lot of my face for one envelope. Anyway, Kayleigh and Liam hit me with the uno reverse card with their gift. Absolutely glorious and now I’m thinking about a range of Mark the Humanist travel mugs and I’m not even sorry!! Also, these two had written their own vows and had both ended their with the same line. It was cute as all hell. Ash and Brian got married at The Engine Works but their daughter Albie really stole the show. From pulling focus when she walked in with her flower petals, to chucking winks at her parents during the ceremony anytime her name was mentioned - she was on top form. But top of the tree was her insisting that she signed the marriage paper work because it was “the family wedding” and she couldn’t be left out. (I think her signature gives Andy on Woody and Buzz Light Years feet and I won’t hear any different). Anyway, include your weans in your ceremony because they are usually some laugh! EDIT: I forgot to say, but when Ash and Brian were doing their homework for the ceremony they discovered that Brian slid into Ash’s Facebook DMs 15 years to the day of their wedding!
