One of several images I did for the latest issue of @altajournal about book clubs. This one focussed on the writers early memory of his mum talking about books around the dinner table, his first book club. Thanks as always to @goecke for sending this over 👊 @salzmanart

New for Rolling Stone - A Hockey Dad, A Cartel, and a $12 Million Fraud. A story about Kota Youngblood, a guy who told his neighbours there were hits out on their lives, and he was the only one who could save them. Really fascinating story, thanks loads to Matthew Cooley for sending this one 👍 @salzmanart @rollingstone

New work in The Economist’s @1843mag for a report about the problems India are having with their vulture population, being poisoned by veterinary chemicals that remain in the carcasses of treated animals. @theeconomist @salzmanart

The last in my series for the @altajournal feature on book clubs, this one was about the rise of silent book clubs, for people that like to meet up, and shut up, to get their reading done. @salzmanart

For an @altajournal feature on the Zamorano 80, a list of California’s foundational novels, and the search for its rarest title ‘The Life and Adventures of Joaquin Murieta’, a tale of a Californian bandit. @salzmanart

Have you heard of romantasy? It’s a portmanteau of romance and fantasy—think Hallmark holiday movies, but much weirder, hornier, and definitely not rated PG-13. At @therippedbodice —the country’s first bookstore dedicated exclusively to romance novels—there’s even a book club devoted to the genre: the Fantasy and Paranormal Romance Book Club. In our latest issue, @cewomackwrites visits the shop, sits in on the club (shoutout to @rebekahweatherspoon , author of A Man for Mrs. Claus, that month’s pick), explores the importance of keeping romance alive and chronicles the success story of the bookstore. You don’t want to miss it. Read more through the link in bio. 🎨 by @marksmithillustration (thanks for the first pic on behalf of all the fantasy romance girlies) #romantasy #romancebooks #fantasybooks #bookclub #bookcommunity #booklovers #indiebookstore #readingcommunity #bookstagram #amreading #bookculture #booksbooksbooks

Who was Joaquín Murieta? In 1854, a Cherokee writer named John Rollin Ridge, publishing as Yellow Bird, helped turn a shadowy Gold Rush figure into one of California’s most enduring legends. His small book, The Life and Adventures of Joaquín Murieta, shaped how generations would imagine Murieta and the early West. Today, only two first-edition copies are known to exist. It is the rarest title on the Zamorano 80 list of foundational California books. Read the story behind the book. Link in bio.
