Last Friday evening I had the great pleasure of cutting the ribbon on the brand new Care To Change disability support office in the Morayfield Health Hub.
With this new facility Care To Change aims to provide "a space designed to support connection, growth, and independence in a safe and inclusive environment".
Congratulations to the Care To Change team on your new digs, and thanks so much for allowing me to wield the giant scissors.
Today is World Neurofibromatosis (NF) Awareness Day.
Buildings and bridges around the world, including our own Caboolture Memorial Hall, will be lit up blue and green to help raise awareness of those living with NF.
NF is a rare and complex genetic condition that can cause tumours to form on nerve cells, under skin and deep in the body. More than 13,000 Australians live with NF.

Julie is a familiar face in our community and she has dedicated much of her life to supporting school chaplains and local young people. As Julie retires from her official role supporting school chaplaincy, and to honour Julie and her selfless service, I awarded Julie with a "Morayfield Community Champion Award". So far, in 17 years, just 6 of these Awards have been presented to extraordinary locals who have made a particularly impressive contribution to our community.
Well done Julie on this well deserved recognition and thank you for all you have done.
To support school chaplaincy, a fundraising dinner will be hosted on Friday 5 June at Sandstone Point Hotel. For more information visit the Helping Hope Happen facebook page.
ATTENTION SMALL BUSINESS REPRESENTATIVES!
My next Small Business Network Coffee Catch Up will be a very special retail-focused edition, held in the Morayfield Shopping Centre. Of course all our regular businesses are welcome too! This should be a fantastic morning, kicking off at the even earlier start time of 6.30am.
Brooklyn Donut & Coffee Co will brew our morning coffees and provide the tasty treats.
As usual, entry is free but booking is essential, so call my office on 5343 5100 to secure your spot. See you there!
In breaking news and following the funding announcement by the Federal Labor Government, community advocacy, and even my speech last night in Parliament; the State Government has today now confirmed publicly that they will also extend their funding for Safe Spaces.
WHAT AN AMAZING OUTCOME FOR OUR COMMUNITY!
Well done to all those who advocated for Safe Spaces, especially those who rely on Safe Spaces and who bravely told their stories.
This funding extension will provide Safe Spaces with a further 12 months of operations; but the fight must go on to ensure longer-term, sustainable funding for this valuable community service.
I recently caught up with the incredible Corrina from The Pink Belles (Qld Cancer Council Hope Ambassadors), who dropped by my office to pick up an assortment of prizes for their upcoming Pink Belles Fantabulous Fete.
Corrina and her fellow Pink Belles do an amazing job raising funds and raising awareness in our community. And they always put a huge smile on your face!
WINNER! WINNER! WINNER!
Ladies and gentlemen, we have ourselves a winner for the Mother's Day winter warmer hamper...it's CHERYL HEGEMANN!
Congratulations Cheryl. Please call my office on 5343 5100 to arrange pick up.
Thanks to everyone else who entered. The response to this raffle was incredible.
STOP THE CUTS - PROTECT OUR STATIONS
The LNP State Government has introduced extreme cuts to staffing at our train stations.
From this weekend, Morayfield, Burpengary and Narangba stations will not be staffed. This not only inconveniences some passengers, it puts them at risk!
Elderly people, those with disabilities and mums with prams will no longer have station staff there to help them on and off the train, toilets will be locked and antisocial behaviour will go unchecked.
If you want to lend your voice to the Rail Tram and Bus Union's campaign to stop these staff cuts, follow this link to sign the petition: /2p4pynv3
Our very own Hook’d On Seafood Morayfield is sitting at #2 in the @qldday All The Best awards.
Surely our local is the BEST fish and chip shop in Qld - my office certainly thinks so!

The LNP cut 93 beds at The Prince Charles Hospital.
Today, it’s been revealed why: a deal quietly brokered to rent 25 beds in a private hospital, at more than $1 million per bed.
Secret deals to privatise your healthcare. Breaking an election promise they made to you.
If you live in the Stafford electorate, you can send the LNP a message on May 16 – stop the cuts.
Against expert advice, the LNP has cut healthcare for Queenslanders struggling with addiction.
The AMAQ has described this cut as "short-sighted and a blow to mental and preventative health".
Labor voted against these laws, because we won't ever stand for cuts to healthcare.
Here are the times and locations for ANZAC services taking place in our local area this Saturday.
Other services will be held in the broader Moreton Bay north region, including Wamuran, Beachmere and Deception Bay.
