To celebrate indigenous peoples day here’s a set of pictures from a truly life-changing shoot for National Geographic with a family of Chukchi reindeer herders in the Arctic Circle in the Far Eastern corner of Siberia.
Shooting in temperatures of -53 C two of my cameras broke leaving me with my trusty Hasselblad 501 and the gorgeous panoramic X-pan. The lenses were almost frozen and no Polaroid would work in those conditions and so it was a very nervous wait at metro images where I had dropped a bag full of film.
The Chukchi family I stayed with are were a very Stoic breed, and unusually whilst herding the reindeer would often just sit down and chill for a minute. This seemingly amusing game was a life saver. They would monitor their heart rate and if it got too high they might begin to sweat and at -53 that could kill you.

ALTADENA ❤️
I wanted to share a couple of images taken the day before the
fire from my beloved Altadena.. I’m a big fan of the “before” pix I had taken my dog for a walk in the Cobb Estate and photographed the setting sun in the window of my truck - I then met the family to eat diner at the newly opened Bernie’s Restaurant (now reopened as Betsy @betsynotbetsys ) - on leaving I grabbed Delta Rae to take a quick portrait in front of Lindsey’s liquor store across the road, before she left to head back to college in NYC, I loved that picture and made a pledge to return with a “proper” camera. Altadena was idyllic on a Balmy winters night, the community out en force to welcome a new creative restaurant to the neighborhood - The next day it was all gone.
I need to remind myself to be present and alert to the good times because you never know what’s coming round the corner. (Ferris Bueller knew his shit!)
A year on life’s still pretty disruptive and the road to rebuilding is going to be long and tough.
But the love and care shown at that time by our local and global families was Astonishing and I’m so grateful for everyone that looked after us in so many different ways..
At the time I made a list in my notes called
“The Kindness of Strangers & the Abundance of friends” -
a list of all the people that helped us so much.
There are hundreds to thank and I won’t single any out as we love you all equally -
All eyes on Altadena and the Palisades and we can’t wait to stride into a brighter 2026 -
Xx
We’re laying my Dad to rest today along side our Mom, they travelled the world together and are now together in a little cemetery in Wiltshire. Things were really tough at the end but this picture reminds me that you’ve always got time to stop and smell the roses. RIP Dad you’re missed and loved, you lived a life of adventure.
The kids loved her as Barbar - my Mom was the Best! She’s now at peace after a tough illness. She’s left a massive hole in our hearts, but I’m so grateful for the love she always showed us.
One of the true pioneers of cottagecore - we see her in the things she taught us, the flowers and birds she loved. And the twinkle in the bluest of eyes
RIP with love from me a real mummy’s boy.
YEAH CODY LEA. Fully cooked and off to change the world -we love you and couldn’t be more proud xxxxx Eagle Rock High School class of 2025 @codezzzero@screeeamiatric
It’s good to get back out there….
Taking it old school…
Going back to my roots

It’s hard to find a better example of the rejection of industrialization in the Arts and Crafts movement than Batchelder, who relied heavily on beautiful nature and whimsical medieval scenes. Stay tuned to watch how this stunning handmade tile is restored and preserved by new hands!
Big thanks to @markreadphotography for the lovely conversation and allowing us the pleasure to save this historic art. We can’t wait to see your new home with this gorgeous tile on your fireplace!
