Found a colony of Grey-rumped Swiftlets (Collocalia spodiopygia) under a bridge. These fast and erratic-flying birds are taking advantage of urban architecture to make a dwelling hidden away from the elements and predators. Tucked beneath this adult is a nestling, kept warm and protected until it's ready to fledge.

A day late to the most recent supermoon party. Tonight when I got home, Luna beckoned, hovering just above the trees visible from my window. As she rose up the sky in her yellowish glow, she would occasionally cloak herself briefly with the passing clouds, adding a little mystery before she decides to reveal herself again.

One of the three individuals who regularly hung out by the side of a boardwalk we often pass at our jogging playground. These guys were there for weeks, chilling, but unfortunately when I finally decided to bring a camera, the two were nowhere to be seen, and this fella moved a bit farther away from the path. Caught a flu early this week and had no motivation to go jogging, so instead I went out to do some "light" birding, leaving my tripod at home and hoping our feathered friends would be in the open with ample light for me to shoot handheld. Well, they were nowhere to be found, except for this Stork-billed Kingfisher (Pelargopsis capensis) chilling at one corner, under the cover of trees, making me regret my decision to go "light." 😅 840mm, ISO 3200, f/5.6, 1/400s #bird #birdsofsg #nparksbuzz #kingfisher #sgwildlife

Missed once again this weekend's target bird. Just as I arrived at the site I learned that the Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher, a vibrant uncommon migrant, never came out of the water after a routine dive for food. Observers presumed that it ended up as a snakehead fish's meal, in a somewhat ironic and tragic twist. But such is nature. A charm of Orange-cheeked Waxbills (introduced) turned up as consolation and gave us ample of opportunities for a shot. But these guys didn't make it easy at all, flying amongst the reeds and twigs and making it tricky to get a clean shot. I got lucky with this frame. 840mm, ISO 500, f/5.6, 1/500s, manual exposure, handheld #bird #waxbill #singapore #birdsofsg #sgwildlife #nparksbuzz #nature #wildlife

No fairy tale from this afternoon's attempt to see and photograph the aptly-named Fairy Pitta (Pitta nympha) -- a vagrant that has captivated many a birder's heart and shutter finger over the last few days -- as the subject was a no-show. This Greater Racket-tailed Drongo (Dicrurus paradiseus), a common resident who somehow lost one of its distinctive tails, was kind enough to console me for my troubles. It's always a challenge to image these birds thanks to their dark and glossy plumage which can make exposure a nightmare and their long tails which make composition tricky. I got lucky today. It was a delightful surprise to see this Crested Goshawk (Accipiter trivirgatus) on one of the trees near my place, allowing me to photograph it from the living room. #bird #goshawk #raptor #birdsofprey #singapore #birdsofsingapore #sgwildlife #sgbiodiversity #nparksbuzz #birdphotography

Beautiful sunrise as seen from Mather Point on the southern rim of the Grand Canyon. This incredible view made up for my waking up early to drive and bearing the early morning cold. Oct 2018. #sunrise #grandcanyon #nature #outdoors #sky #fire #morning #arizona

Used my feather-imaging gear to make an attempt at the two largest planets in the solar system. Always a challenge to shoot at 2400mm, focusing and tracking these objects, which, at these focal lengths, move pretty fast in the frame. I can see Jupiter's bands and Saturn's ring so I'm happy. Next goal is to capture the Great Red Spot. Apr 2020. - #jupiter #saturn #planets #astro #astrophotography #night #nightsky #sky #space

Last night's "pink" supermoon. Not my favorite moon phase to photograph because of its lack of shadows and contrast, reducing the amount of perceivable detail, but last night's is the biggest supermoon this year. Apr 2020. - #moon #astro #astrophotography #night #singapore #supermoon #lunar
