Yesterday saw the birth (i.e. publication) of my book “Universal Principles of Branding.” The number of friends, colleagues, associates, family members, and outright strangers who sent their congratulations throughout the day was absolutely overwhelming.
Eternal thanks to my early readers: Lisa Sheridan, Tom Guarriello, Melinda Welch, Kristin James, Kelsy Postlethwait, Michael Shirey, and Jane Elizabeth Brown… Debbie Millman, fellow faculty, directors, alumni, and students at the Masters in Branding Program… And my editor Jonathan Simcosky and everyone else at @quartobooksus .
The book is available in all good bookstores and outlets around the world. This makes me happy because my work with clients in Europe, Asia and South America informed much of the text.
I can now say that I’ve been published in academic texts AND coloring books.
My publisher, @quartobooksus publishes a commemorative coloring book each year to celebrate Independent Bookstore Day (which is tomorrow, Saturday, April 25). And this is my tribute to @fitz_books_and_waffles on Main St in Buffalo; a particular favorite.
61 years ago today, the classic John Coltrane quartet took the stage at the Half Note (located at 289 Hudson St, corner of Spring St.) for a WABC-AM radio show called “Portraits in Jazz.” The recordings made that night, and a few weeks later, document a group at the ultimate peak of their game. Saxophonist Archie Shepp, who was in the audience, once said that “it was like being in church.”
I can only imagine.
Here is my cover design for the first official release of this near-legendary session. My one and only project for the House that Trane built i.e. Impulse! Records.
Digging in the archives… Unused poster design for David Lang’s “Love Fail” at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, 2012. The piece is a retelling of “Tristan and Isolde.” One theme in the piece is Day vs. Night. The two find safety and passion in the night and fear the coming of the day, which represents the harsh reality of their forbidden love.
Got a bit of good news today... The kind folks at @editoraolhares sent the cover of the upcoming Brazilian edition of "Brands in the Age of AI." Maravilhoso!
