We're open 24th and 25th May; the steam engine will be running, and you will get an amazing look inside this Grade 2 listed building. Dating from 1888 the engine hall houses the working steam-powered beam engine. It’s a great chance to meet our team of volunteers and see the amazing architecture up close as one of the most complete remaining sites of a Victorian Sewage treatment works. For the younger visitors there are free activity sheets and an activity area, with the museum located in Markfield park with lots of green space and a café. Back-to-back steaming weekends! Following this weekend's event, we're firing up again on 21st September! Our volunteer team will have the 27ft flywheel spinning and those twin cylinders pumping just as they did in Victorian times. When running at full capacity, this engine could move 4 million gallons of sewage per day—an engineering feat that helped transform public health in London.
