🗝️ Check out the process of creating a station artwork!
👉 Starting at @markdeanveca ’s studio 👉 to the fabricator’s studio 👉 then finally installing the artwork at the station platform of the future Wilshire/La Brea Station.
Mark Dean Veca is one of the 27 artists/artist teams creating site specific, integrated artwork for the D Line Subway Extension Project.
Through stylistic references to barley fields and tar, 𝘔𝘪𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘭𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘓𝘢 𝘉𝘳𝘦𝘢 draws from the art deco details of the nearby Wilshire Tower building and the geology of the Miracle Mile neighborhood.
Fabricated in porcelain enamel steel that extends down the length of the station platform on either side, riders will see everyday objects cherished by people who live and work in the area.

Get a sneak peek before the D Line’s public debut. Come to Wilshire/La Brea on May 8 to say you saw it first! 👀
The opening of the D Line Extension – Section 1 has been wholly anticipated by Angelenos! @metrolosangeles is introducing three new stations in West LA and expanding connections across LA. Along your journey, take in new artworks that reflect the communities, stories and destinations tied to each station.
1. ‘Infinite Landscape: Los Ángeles Para Siempre' by Eamon Ore-Giron, artist, uses glass and glass tiles that draw from the geometry of Art Deco and pays tribute to LA’s architectural and cultural past and future.
2. ‘Re: Orientation’ by Fran Siegel, artist, weaves together layered images from the local landscapes along the Wilshire corridor in glass tiles, where riders can catch glimpses of fossils, bold Art Deco details, a sundial and more.
3. ‘Miracle of La Brea’ by Mark Dean Veca, artist, invites riders to peek at familiar objects bubbling up from tar encased in porcelain enamel steel, revealing themselves as kaleidoscopic icons drawn from the local community’s stories.
With new stations on the D Line, discover art along the way!
