From a quick trip to Monte Rosa last weekend, Saturday night at the valley floor in Gressoney to Sunday morning on the Parrotspitze, on foot, ~2700m all-in, then the lifts down. Cold and clear with perfect conditions other than some strong wind.
It’s been a busy summer without much time for climbing but I’ve enjoyed getting away for a couple quick solo trips without an overnight in the huts, and Monte Rosa brings back great memories of climbing Cresta Signal with @giozac.mountainguide two years ago and the Dufourspitze back in 2019. I feel super fortunate to live a two hour drive from the biggest mountains in the Alps.
Quick trip (but a long day) up Gran Paradiso, directly from the parking lot to the peak. First time “alone” on a 4000m mountain but that’s an extremely relative term on such a busy route. Absolutely beautiful views nonetheless, and still good conditions a couple weeks back. I’m grateful to live so close to this.

Three days in “the refrigerator of Italy,” Cogne/Lillaz.
#1-7, Monday Money. Finding our first choice packed with over a dozen teams we walked an extra hour and had a fantastic icefall all to ourselves.
#8-10 Applying the same logic, we hiked 3 hours to find the beautiful Eknaton, slightly too fragile for our taste. Sometimes there is a reason no track leads there.
#11-12 Pattinaggio Artistico (Figure Skating), the longest coldest shower I’ve ever taken.
Another good time sharing a rope with Andrea who is always down to walk those extra hours and see what we may find, and always happy to take a hard lead. #iceclimbing #cascatedighiaccio
