I had the chance to test out the new Nikon ZR and shoot a fun short film with it. I stuck to my trusted @cookeoptics SP3 lenses and I was blown away the results on this camera, zero noise, and fantastic dynamic range. All shot on location in Wisconsin on my friends farm @fieldandfarmco Watch the 3min documentary on my YouTube channel @markandrewbone

Quick comparison between the Arcana Anamorphics and Arles Spherical lenses from @dzofilm Out of the camera there’s some more contrast from the Arcana Anamorphics, but I have seen negligible color shift between the lenses. Impressive overall for the Arcana’s at that price point. I love the look of both sets. What do you like?

[SWIPE ➡️] First look at the @dzofilm Arcana lenses. So far I’m loving the weight and close focus capabilities. The character of the lenses lands in the medium range of having more swirl and distortion than most other anamorphics in this price range but less than some vintage optics, which isn’t a bad thing but just taste/preference. I added some frames to show the flares. These lenses are so light and compact that I had a rig just suction cupped to my car window with a cheap gecko rig and it worked fine, minimal vibrations. They are decently sharp at a first glance and have a 77mm front thread which is so nice if you have a bazillion ND filters for stills lenses like me. We are giving away a set of these on @theartofdocumentary Let me know your thoughts!

Deciding what camera gear to bring for two months across four countries wasn’t about how much I could pack but more about what I’d actually reach for each morning. (List below)

I kept the kit lean (by my standards) but hard to do when lenses are involved. It all fit between my @grams28 backpack and travel sling. Most days it was one camera in the 173 Vertical Sling and that was it.

I ended up shooting mostly ProRes and RAW photos on a @progradedigital reader using the iPhone 17.

This honeymoon was about doing less. So I wanted the gear to reflect that.

GEAR: 1. Fuji Disposable 35mm (easy/fun and less heavy than my Pentax) 2. @grams28 173 vertical Sling (carries more than you’d expect and has a convenient iPhone slot on the front) 3. @insta360 One X (only for snowboarding, again just easy fun recording, still works great 8years later) 4. Helios 44-2 58mm (Always) 5. Fx3 + Sony 24mm f2.8 (truly my most least used camera, probably didn’t need it in the end, wish I had an eye piece for photos, I didn’t end up vlogging except once) 6. @progradedigital Mobile USB C reader (this was my fav “camera” of the trip, shot so much ProRes on this, truly a joy for travel with the @apple iPhone17, so tiny) 7. @peakdesign Fibre Tripod (@jessedriftwood convinced me of this and it might be my fav travel tripod) 8. @grams28 152 Transit Backpack

Let this sunset be a sign to book your next trip in the off season. There wasn’t another tourist for miles when we visited the Great Wall in mid-January. A lot of people told us not to travel to China in the winter, but it’s proven to deliver insane views, fewer crowds, and the chance to move at a slower pace. This was the Jinshanling section of the wall. It was a bit further to get to but absolutely worth it. The less popular spots always are better if you like exploring.
