Enjoying Sunday fried chicken night at a cozily crowded Saint Florian @saintflorianhudson . Delicious! Doors open, sunny breeze streaming in, ice cold drinks. The food and atmo at S.F. is always satisfying. 🍗🍺🌄 (Shanan from Park Theater photobombing the background!)
Come visit sexbomb Will McLeod @_willmcleod_ at his Open Studio, Sat & Sun 11-6, 609 Cherry Alley between 6th and 7th street, Hudson, NY. Take a tour, look at his art, discuss his process, chat, and even use the bathroom! (you’ll see) talk about a snazzy art pad! His studio has a Juliet balcony that overlooks this sublime weekend weather. You may see me there. 👀

@_willmcleod_ standing in front of his three-panel textile piece THE NOSEBLEED. The work is made entirely out of sewn-together fabric lines and shapes. It originates as a much smaller painting, enlarged onto huge sheets of draft paper where each line and shape is mapped and given a number. A fabric is chosen for each, and the piece is constructed like a jigsaw puzzle using a sewing machine. It’s then stretched onto a frame. The impressive process takes months. You can learn more about Will’s maddening methods at his Instagram linked above. It debuted last night at Hudson Hall’s @hudsonhallny new show, Surface, Structure, String. The opening was one of the most crowded I’ve seen in Hudson in a long time. I do recommend this eclectic, bumpy exhibit! It was nice seeing so many people introduce themselves to Will and ask about his work. Keep scrolling to see Will and me mugging for our own camera, and a shot of Will blowing his nose in Hudson Hall’s spacious bathroom (topical!) Info about the show at Hudson Hall’s instagram linked above.
Come see @_willmcleod_ and his massive sewn construction at @hudsonhallny “Surface Structure String” show. Opening reception Friday May 8, 5-7 PM, 327 Warren (info at link in bio)
Public city government meetings are great because there isn’t an influencer within a 100-mile radius. Want to know a hot secret? The new see-and-be-seen spot in town is right under your nose and it’s the monthly Common Council meetings held the third Tuesday of every month at City Hall. Edge-of-your-seat local drama, stunning reveals, low-tech effects, some yelling, some yawning, and all of it free (not counting your tax dollars). Find out what ward alderman you voted for is up to by watching them in action (that’s right —you’re— the judge). Witness laws and resolutions get debated in real time. Gasp as you see what people in town are spending… the numbers flash right up on screen (no hiding that!) See local business people embroiled in controversy come plead their case before the council. Watch pro-active residents do the same about their side of the issue. Hear disembodied voices chime in from home electronically (probably while enjoying a glass or three of wine) as they watch from the live video broadcast. Traditional interactive theater is never this dramatic (there’s a security guard on hand in case things get out of hand). I will be honest there ARE some boring parts, because it’s all so real! During those parts you can gaze up on the wall at mayor portraits spanning back to the 1800s and rate their hotness (mutton chops are sexy). Cool Hudson people gossip on the streets and in the bars, but the Common Council meetings are ground zero for everything everyone’s gossiping about. It’s like being in the green room and the war room all at once. Just grab a seat. You can even participate in the public comment portion of each discussion. It’s not about being informed… it’s about being entertained! The knowledge will just rub off. That’s my take. Best show in town. Third Tuesday of every month, usually 6:00 PM, City Hall, 520 Warren Street, Hudson, NY. @_willmcleod_ and I will see you there!
What’s missing in our upstate life? Tanzy’s of Hudson NY’s weekend breakfasts, obviously. Luckily, the always snazzy Saint Florian @saintflorianhudson restaurant hosts Tanzy’s breakfasts the last Sunday of every month. Tanzy’s original owner Sandie Tanzillo-Gay will be in the house dropping by your table (third photo) making sure you finish your food. Don’t have to ask. Tanzy’s breakfasts are legendary in upstate NY… the best pancakes in New York (no joke). Saint Florian owner and local activist/prankster Robb Finn (fourth photo) always drops by and flashes his pearly whites with local gossip and news. Saint Florian @saintflorianhudson is one of Will and my’s favorite restaurants in town. The food and drinks are always excellent, Rob and the staff are casual and welcoming, and the cozy dark wood and high-ceiling atmosphere is always 100%, day or night. They are also one of the few restaurants in town open every day rain or shine, with extended hours. Always a good experience here!
