The Bible says, “Judge not lest ye be judged,” UNLESS you get asked by the Springsteen Archives and Center for American Music to be a judge for their annual Gospel Choir festival. In that case you show up and judge everyone to no end! Thank you for having me and congrats to top winners and all the choirs and praise teams who participated!
We still can’t express how proud we are of @mark_d_conklin on his GRAMMY nomination for this project. Click our bio link to stream #TheGospelAccordingToMark today!

A bit about prayer on a late Sunday afternoon.
In loving memory of Deborah McCrary and Dr. Paul T. Kwami

I made a post earlier this year lamenting (somewhat humorously) that I never got to see my name in Billboard when “The Gospel According to Mark” landed on the charts but wasn’t listed in the magazine. But check this out! In the Billboard GRAMMY voting guide, not only did the album get listed in the nominee section, but my friends and colleagues at Prudential Center, HBSE and Record High were gracious enough to take out a full-page congratulatory ad! BIG thanks to all of them for their kindness and support! I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, I’ve got the best gig in the state!

About the only thing that could get me up at 3:00am would be to take a great group of talented Newark Arts High school students to the Today Show in NYC to represent Prudential Center’s RECORD HIGH program and perform with the great country artist, Walker Hayes. Tune in LIVE between 9:30am - 10:00am ET and hear a beautiful Christmas tune with string arrangement by my dear friend, Martha Mooke.
I cut my teeth playing 3 and 4 hour sets for little to no pay in smoky bars with Antar Goodwin. What a great gift it is to still be friends 30 years later and to get to attend his first GRAMMY Chapter event with him last night in Atlantic City with the mighty Philly Chapter! The chapter was always so supportive of our little GRAMMY Museum in Newark and would make the trips up the turnpike often to our programs. Shout out to everyone who makes it happen!
“The Calling” was the first song I wrote for “The Gospel According to Mark.” It was such an honor to have the amazing McCrary Sisters on the track. Here’s a little peak at the recording session. Happy Friday!

So, this really happened?!?!
Thanks to the @recordingacademy for this snazzy graphic to share.
And thanks to the Recording Academy voting members who supported this album! You always hear that “It’s an honor just to be nominated,” and you never really know if that’s true or if it’s just something people say to sound humble. But it turns out, it really *is* an honor just to be nominated and it’s *very* humbling.

This logo has always meant a lot to me. It meant a lot when I was a kid staying up late and watching the GRAMMYs on TV. And it meant a lot more when I spent 5+ years doing my best to represent it as the Director of the GRAMMY Museum at Prudential Center in NJ. But it’s never meant as much to me as it does today. CAUSE YOUR BOY JUST GOT NOMINATED FOR A GRAMMY!!!
“THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO MARK” has been nominated in the BEST ROOTS GOSPEL ALBUM category at the 67th Annual GRAMMY Awards on February 2nd, 2025.
Congrats to my fellow nominees. And BIG CONGRATS to co-producer Mark Prentice, narrator Gloria Gaynor, StowTown Records, and all the amazing featured artists, backing singers, instrumentalists and audio professionals involved in this project! Wait till they get a load of us in LA this February. We’re gonna roll up in there like the Beverly Hillbillies all jacked up on Mountain Dew!! Swimming pools and movie stars!!! YEEEE-HAAAAAW!!!!
