I’ve had this concept in my head for over a year—something I envisioned specifically for Thursday Boots while researching the brand. I bought my first pair back in 2019, and after years of being put through pretty much every environment, I still rock ‘em to this day. And then I it got me thinking, “how can what we wear on our feet elevate the rhythm of our everyday lives?” So it was fun exploring a whole visual story about what happens when we “Make Everyday a Thursday”.

“The First Step” - a Spec Ad for @on
An idea that was first sparked over a year ago and went through so many iterations to finally being alive is something else. A story that many of us - if not everyone - experience: what will we choose to do when faced with discomfort and uncertainty in pursuit of a goal or the person we want to become? For me, this project was my answer to this question. A lot of challenges, self-doubt, fear, wanting to give up, but trusting the bigger picture, committing to taking that first step, and taking what I’ve learned onward to the next project!
Major shoutout to the small and mighty crew on this one! Wouldn’t want to begin the day at 4AM running around Downtown San Diego with anyone else! 🙏🏾

One tip about R3DRAW: shooting at and lighting for a lower ISO helps you take fuller advantage of the Dynamic Range thus allowing you to retain more information in your image. That way if you need to increase your ISO specifically in post (which I did here from 200 to 320, and even to 800 at times), you have that capability and can still maintain a very clean image not only in your highlights, but especially your shadows than if you were to shoot at a higher ISO, like at 800 for example, and tried bringing it down in post.
I ended up adding some grain anyway to give it a bit of film texture. 🤷🏽♂️ 😆 But still, I was very impressed at how well these shots held up in the coloring process. Becoming more and more of a fan of RED now that I understand more fully their image capabilities.

* I’ve worked with the Komodo dozens of times over the years, but never had the chance to explore the footage in post myself. Now having finished this project, I understand why many folks love R3D RAW. Even after doing my own research during prep, and obsessively checking my exposure on set, I was sure I may have pushed it too far in the shadows. Turns out the Komodo holds *so* much detail it’s kinda unreal when comparing other cameras around this price point. It feels so good to deepen my understanding of this tool and really push it to its full potential.

It’s been so rewarding to see the growth since my last reel and implementing all that I’ve learned thus far working under talented DPs, watching endless tutorials, researching films & shows, and just remaining a student of the craft. Excited to continue this journey into 2026!

2025 was a year of straight survival mode. Transitioning away from working as a 1st AC and into a DP, it seemed like endless challenges and bouts of wanting to quit and give up. But I’m so incredibly grateful (which words cannot do it justice) to have the hope & peace of God beside me to walk with me through it all.
