A recent study of Rystad Energy predicts that the offshore oil and gas sector will experience its most substantial growth in a decade over the next two years, thanks to $214 billion of investment in entirely new projects. Offshore activities are expected to make up 68% of all newly approved conventional hydrocarbon projects in 2023 and 2024. These investments will greatly benefit the offshore services market, with supply chain spending projected to increase by 16% in 2023 and 2024, marking a ten-year high with a year-on-year growth of $21 billion. The #offshore sector, including #rigs, #vessels, #subsea operations, and floating production storage and offloading (#FPSO) activities, is all set to thrive.
Despite the growth of the #oil and #gas sector, according to the #InternationalEnergyAgency, global investments in clean energy technologies are on track to reach $1.7 trillion in 2023, significantly surpassing spending on fossil fuels. More than $1 trillion of investment is expected to go to coal, gas, and oil.
The campaign to install the first of 277 turbines at the Doggerbank wind farm is underway. The 13MW 260m tall turbines will be installed using the newly built jack-up vessel ‘Voltaire’, the largest of its kind in the world. The four legs of 130 metres result in a maximum crane tip height as high as the Eiffel tower in Paris. 🗼

A cargo ship carrying over 3,500 cars is on fire in the North Sea north of the Netherlands. The ship, the Fremantle Highway, had 23 crew members on board, one of whom died in the fire. The crew was rescued with helicopters and rescue boats. Several had to jump overboard and were rescued from the water.

Beautiful pictures of DEME’s floating DP3 #offshore installation vessel Orion installing 1/28 giant monopiles for the #ArcadisOst1 project in the Baltic Sea. The vessel is equipped with a 5,000-tonne crane and a motion compensated gripper system able to handle enormous foundations of up to 2,500 tonnes. Once fully commissioned in 2023, the wind farm’s 27 9.5 MW turbines will provide enough electricity to cover the needs of up to 300,000 German households.

The two tugboats Carlo Magno and Alp Guard are called in to aid efforts of more than 10 smaller tugs to free the Ever Given container vessel that got stuck in the Suez Canal. If these tugboats with a bollard pull of 155mt and 285 mt respectively will not be able to free the vessel, containers will have to unloaded from the Ever Given to lighten the ship.
