PUFFINS! comes out soon! April 14 2026! Written by @maria_gianferrari_author and illustrated by me. ( published by @mackidsbooks )
I am very proud of this book! It’s cartoony! It’s loud! It’s dramatic! Much like the life of an actual puffin. And it was dream to get to work with @maria_gianferrari_author again!
Find out more via the link in my bio, including where to get a copy and a preview of the interior!
When you see a cool rock
Image description: A cartoon drawing of an Atlantic puffin: she is black on the back and a white face and chest, with a bright orange beak. She’s looking excitingly at something we can’t see, but it’s probably a cool rock.
Flappin’ into the weekend like…
Image description: A cartoon drawing of an Atlantic puffin standing on a speckled grey rock, flapping his wings. His belly and face a white, and his back and neck are black. His feet and beak are bright orange. Little drops of water are getting flicked from his wings; he has just returned from swimming in the ocean.
oh hi there hello how are you
Image description: A cartoon drawing of an Atlantic puffin, but just from the shoulders up. Their head has a collar of black around the neck, with two white circles on either side of their bright orange beak. A small inverted triangle of black covers the top of their head, its point leading down to the top of their beak. They are facing us, beak open in a smille, with their eyes alight. They look pretty happy to see you - um, do you have a fish??
Grumpy puff
Image description: A cartoon drawing of an Atlantic puffin. She is black on the back with a white face and chest, and a bright orange beak. She is looking very grumpily at something we can’t see. Another puffin? A common tern? A fly? Maybe it’s just the Wednesday grumps.
Rainy day here. I’d really like to sleep in (or at least tuck my beak under my wing and nap a bit)
Image description: A cartoon drawing of an Atlantic puffin, bobbing on the waves. She is black on the back and white on the belly and face, with bright orange beak and feet.
HONK
Image description: A cartoon drawing of an Atlantic puffin, jumping up in the air and flapping his wings. His beak is open and he is shouting HONK! He is black on the back with a white face and belly, with bright orange feet and beak.
I had an amazing time yesterday celebrating the release of my new picture book Puffins!, written by @maria_gianferrari_author
It was my first book event since I moved to Nova Scotia. Thank you SO MUCH to the folks at @onthesamepage.books for hosting (if you’re ever in Cape Breton, check them out!!). And thank you to everyone who showed up! I got to nerd out about nature and comics and drawing (and even airplanes)! @artbyraysmith@may.bringer@leahboudreau_art it was so great to meet you all!!
Image description: A cartoon drawing of an Atlantic puffin chick, also called a puffling. She is a fluffy grey ball of feathers and very loudly chirping PEEP, waiting to be fed some fish from her parents.
Saturdays are for snuggling (although most birds don’t really have a concept of our work week, so these two could be snuggling anytime)
Image description: A cartoon drawing of an Atlantic puffin and their fluffy bird-child, also called a puffling. The adult puffins is black on the back with a white belly, with a bright orange beak. They are looking down at the puffling, who is a grey puffy pompom of a bird, eyes gently closed from being so content from the snuggles.
TGIF
(Thank God It’s Fish)
Image description: A cartoon drawing of an Atlantic puffin chick, also called a puffling, gulping down a whole shiny blue fish. The puffling is aptly named, being covered in fluffy, downy feathers for warmth. They will get their grown-up feathers and fledge in a month or so.
