A happy coincidence that this feature with
@nancianderson is out in
@dancemagazine the same month as the VMAs. Linking to an extended version of this interview in my profile, but sharing the unedited text about that time she casually handed a massive snake to Britney Spears while dancing in the greatest VMAs performance of all time (2001 “I’m A Slave 4 U” if you needed reminding) 💁🏻♀️🐍✨

"We all show up to rehearse for the VMA performance, and they're picking dancers for spots, and the day is going on and on and on, and I'm off to the side. They keep putting dancers in spots and calling people, and I'm going, 'Okay, any minute now I'm going to get to go dance.' And the whole day goes by, and finally, Brian [Friedman] and Wade [Robson] come up to me, and they go, 'So, we have this really great part for you. We've been waiting to tell you because we're just so excited for you.' And I'm like, 'Oh, cool,' because I'm literally thinking they forgot to put me in. And they go, 'You're going to hold the snake, and we're going to put you 15 feet in the air, and when you come down, you're going to hand it to Britney, and then you're going to come to the center of the stage and do the whole end of the choreography.' And so that's how that happened. And because they were such good salesmen, I was like, 'Yeah, that's gonna be fun!' Inside I'm like, 'That sounds really scary, I don't like snakes.' At the beginning, there's flashing lights and the sound of thunder, and I'm like 'Is the snake going to be okay, or is it going to move?' And it would move! And I'd have to kind of pick it up and shift it back. Britney actually broke out in hives after handling the snake because yeah, it's terrifying, and she was just doing a lot. In the end, it was totally fine and fun. I think it's one of those things I just muscled through."
