I want to have been a German synth designer during the economic miracle. Just look at that sweet serviceability. Someone has even added a transformer balanced output! Prizes for guessing which synth it is. Members of @warmduscherr are disqualified.
I don’t think I’ve ever posted about the death of someone I never met. I barely post about anything, but this one feels different. Steve Albini’s philosophy in and out of the studio has been possibly the greatest influence over my professional life. He was principled, forthright and had an aspiration to do the best job possible at a fair price. I wouldn’t say I’m a true devotee of analogue purism but his assertions acted as an anchor in the often bewildering world of music technology. Is the technology in question musical? Does it serve the artistic intention? Is it obfuscating the connection between audience and artist? I made a radio show in tribute about 5 years ago with all of my favourite recordings so thought I’d post it (Link in Bio) Disclaimer: not actually chronological. I wish I’d had the chance to meet him and nerd out about all sorts of recording techniques and practices. Love you forever Steve, thank you for the guidance and inspiration. X
