Mermaids Get Trashed Litter Pick – Sunday 12th, Tivoli Park
Our optimistic Margate WI Mermaids Get Trashed did brilliantly, collecting more than 7 bags of litter in Tivoli Park. The park didn’t seem as bad as usual — a refreshing change! We wished the same could be said for the weather… we had the full mix of April showers with the occasional glimpse of blue sky. A huge thank you to everyone who came out despite the soggy conditions — your dedication really does make a difference.

Bystanders Can Be Lifesavers "It all started in Margate!"
In 2024, our members were inspired by a Community Lifesavers session, learning how to recognise cardiac arrest, perform CPR, use a defibrillator, and find the nearest one via defibfinder.uk—highlighting how vital these skills are in an emergency.
At April’s WI meeting, we were treated to an inspiring talk from environmentalist and filmmaker Nik Mitchell – Get Wild, whose passion for wildlife shone through every story he shared.
Saturday 18th April at 12pm - The Viking Ship, Sandwich Road, Cliffsend.
Come and join Nik, who will be giving a talk on why Minster Marshes should be left undisturbed, allowing nature to continue to flourish.
More AGM inspiration!
Absolutely loved Lindsey Barrell’s story. From empty-nest worries to forming the first WI burlesque troupe, she was warm, funny, and so real. And her line about friendship said it all:
“In 12 years, yes — I’ve made the most amazing friends.”
My first EKWI AGM 🌟
As a new committee member, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect—but the AGM on 2 April 2026 turned out to be so inspiring. The speakers were fantastic, and I felt genuinely proud watching our very own Margate WI President, Hilary, deliver her “Bystanders Can Be Lifesavers” presentation. A brilliant day full of community spirit!
My First EKWI AGM 🌟
As a new committee member, I wasn’t sure what to expect from the EKWI AGM on 2 April 2026—but the inspiring speakers made it unforgettable. Including our very own Margate WI President, Hilary, whose “Bystanders Can Be Lifesavers” presentation brought local pride and plenty of smiles.
Margate WI members enjoyed a fabulous evening featuring illustrator Molly Pickle and a wonderfully relaxed screen-printing workshop, where members created beautiful prints on canvas, clothing, and bags. We also celebrated 11 fabulous years of our WI with friends, creativity, and, of course, cake! A warm, inspiring night all round.

Our long-awaited almond tree is finally in the ground at Tivoli Park, celebrating Margate WI’s first decade! Blossoming beautifully, “our tree” was planted with lots of fun, mud, and smiles thanks to Phoebe and the Thanet Council Open Spaces Team. #thanetdistrictcouncil
