She is a free woman who buys her own drinks, loves Banda music, and is at the party to dance! Mexico has one of the highest rates of femicide in the world—where daughters, sisters, mothers, cousins, and friends are disappeared due to gender-based violence. In the US, politicians continue to police women’s bodies, stripping away our freedom of choice and autonomy over our own lives. This Women’s Month, I encourage us all to continue holding, uplifting, and protecting the trans and cis women in our lives and letting them know how special they are to you. Something about documenting the guys and me in my living room before I move out of this apartment this week felt important. I think it’s because it feels like the end of a chapter, 4 years living alone in the Bay (I honestly never thought I’d be able to do that, considering the housing market). I sometimes think about how I’m probably the first lady in my family that’s done that, had “a room [place] of one’s own”. I think about how peaceful this home was to me, how I felt soothed all of last year being home. How much I was able to really focus and hone in on myself because of it. Like, even if I wasn’t feeling my best (which unfortunately was a good chunk of last year), this place always felt so comfy and safe, my own little oasis, if you will. Anywho, big thank you to @groovemonstr for being down to take these photos, they’re all so sweet and capture the ease I’ve felt in living here and my favorite corner of this apartment💖
