Lots of years on the trails for the boys to handle crossings like this one. Goats instinctively avoid water. They hate it. “Timber” chose his own path and got a head dunk as his reward. I always stay ready to help them if they need it, but I have to balance being ready to help and also moving the string along by leading the way. It’s always a tough seesaw of me out front and trying to be close enough to rescue them if necessary. Yet, far enough to get them to come across to follow the rest of the herd. It takes lots of confidence and repetition for goats to easily cross something like this. Also, I am very thankful for the waterproof hardcore panniers we invented that allowed for my gear to stay dry inside of those panniers while “Timber” figured his way through. Goats remain calm in difficult situations, which is one of their ninja powers. In fact you’ll see “Timber” dip his head to take a little drink while he stands there and figures the best path without being able to see his feet. “Timber” has since passed (miss him) this video was from two years ago in nowhere Idaho. When I have a string of seven goats, this is what we have to do, seven times before we hit the trail. You become pretty fast and efficient at loading panniers and goats by the end of packing season. All this great gear is available for you @pack.goats
Flashback to a fun trip with Tricia. We keep our love alive with lots of nature; both on the ranch and the trail. Running Pack Goats becomes a lifestyle that Tricia and I both feel so blessed to have in our lives. These wonderful companions add a super fun texture with being deep in the backwoods working alongside the animals and the people you love. #thegoatguy
Very important! Friends of Ripple Ranch, the commission had to cancel our public meeting for tomorrow night. I know many of you, and we’re so grateful, we’re going to attend. The meeting has now been delayed till June 11. We are just finding this out as we put in the grass on the last terrace. Thank you so much to those of you willing to show up. Please put June 11 on your calendar as the next opportunity to support Ripple Ranch in what we do. We are so grateful to you all. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them in the comments and I would be glad to answer them.
Why did America forget??

Me and my fellow subjects in a Q and A after the showing of “The Voyage Out” at the Austin Film Festival. The question was how did you start out and what are you doing now?
Last season was amazing in the high country with my boys. This season is right around the corner and the back country is calling with a loud voice. I can’t wait to get back in there!
Going out heavy with the boys carrying my 30th elk with a bow. I’m not much of a trophy elk hunter so getting the freezer full is always my first objective. Grateful for my boys and their help packing out all the meat. #packgoats
