I think I may have found the FIRST video I’m playing for my students this semester at #HowardUniversity.
This pretty much sums up what I teach: there’s a BIG difference between being known… and actually knowing how to use your skills to ideate, grow, sustain, pivot, and maintain a REAL career. Like… an actual grown-folks-with-health-insurance-and-a-retirement-plan career.
And honestly, music and entertainment may still be one of the LAST sectors in our community where you can truly create a life from creativity, relationships, talent, ownership, and innovation combined.
I’d also add this part: The money you can make from doing this the RIGHT way can allow you to enjoy your family, enjoy your time off, travel the world, and meet new, exciting, brilliant people every time you go to work.
Now granted… you WILL meet the occasional a$$hole. Maybe three. Maybe an entire panel discussion worth. But generally speaking, you meet fun, creative, engaged people who are actually building things, and not outta fear.
And while most lawyers,l and consultants I meet are creative, I can’t necessarily say I had THAT experience in law regularly-at least in the past.
And with the introduction, deployment, and expansion of AI tools across ALL sectors… #IRL it’s about to get REAL AF.
Masters-level and PhD-level analysis and research are already being done in fractions of the time it took pre-AI. FRACTIONS. Let that sink in.
So don’t worry about me. Know your kid. Know your friends who play music. Know the creatives around you. Learn how they FLO!
I got them. We got us.
