Cultural Practice: Maiko(舞妓)
Maiko are apprentice Geiko/Geisha - female Japanese performing artists and entertainers trained in traditional performing arts styles - dance, music (i.e. playing shamisen) and singing. They are also expert conversationalists and hosts. The apprenticeship can last from a few months up to 2 years.
