Happy National Small Business Week! From May 3 – 9, we are celebrating small businesses and entrepreneurs locally and nationwide. As a small business ourselves for almost 30 years, we encourage customers to shop small. 🛍️🤝 In 2025, MarCom Group earned its official Small Business Administration (SBA) certification, marking its unwavering dedication to delivering innovation and expertise to every opportunity. “This is not just a certification — it’s a celebration of our company’s roots and our future,” said Lauren Rainford, President of MarCom Group. This week, remember to shop small and make a big impact on the success of small businesses like us! For more information, visit the U.S. Small Business Administration website. Link in bio.

Until very recently, breaking through the clutter required creating messaging so creative and compelling that it stood out in its cleverness. Today, it’s not just ads fighting for attention, it’s the shifting platforms and behaviors that determine how people stay informed. Breaking through that clutter takes much more than creativity alone. It takes somebody like MarCom Group’s newest Communication Strategist, Charlie DeMott Wildey. “People can only see a message if you reach them where they’re looking.” “As communicators, we need to keep our eyes open and focus on where people actually are. What they’re seeing. What they’re listening to. Understanding what channel we’re communicating on and who we’re trying to reach is everything.” Because in today’s landscape, it’s not just about having something to say. It’s about making sure it’s seen, heard, and felt. Which, coincidentally, is precisely what Charlie does best. Please join us in giving him a heartfelt welcome to the team.

One of the most frequently cited challenges of working in a remote or hybrid environment is the loss of connection among coworkers. An offshoot of this is the opportunity to build a strong mentor/mentee relationship. Weekly lunch chats are now replaced by video calls from across the country. But do not lose hope, because our own Kaelin Okoronkwo put together five simple steps that she found useful for not only finding a mentor, but also getting the most out of that relationship without leaving her house. Have any additional ideas? Share them in the comments!

When he entered college, graphic design wasn’t among Hom Ho’s career goals. He enrolled in an intro to typography class and immediately heard his calling. “Good design, once you see it, you see it forever.” “I just fell in love with it. I began to view the world differently: billboards, magazines, television. I’d never been that passionate about anything before. I’d always wanted to be part of something bigger, and graphic design allowed me to do that.” That passion and perspective are exactly what Hom brings to our clients and our team. Great design, after all, isn’t just something you experience — it’s something you feel, connect with, and remember. It results in work that stands out. Work that resonates. Work you don’t soon forget. Just wait, you’ll see. Join us in welcoming Hom to our team.

Putting together an events team like the one Victoria Ayers has assembled at MarCom Group doesn’t happen by accident. That kind of chemistry doesn’t happen by chance. If you’ve followed MarCom Group social for any length of time, you’ve already noticed. The Events team REALLY enjoys what they do and the people they do it with. It’s evident in every photo ever taken of the team. Amazing, considering pulling off flawless events is no easy feat. But the events team does it time and time again. It’s the product of putting all the right people in all the right places, and giving them the guidance, resources, and support they need to succeed. Credit for that goes to Victoria. Not only has she assembled a team unmatched in the event world, but she’s also coached, encouraged, and led them to excel together, and just as importantly, individually. No wonder they’re so happy. Which is why we couldn’t be happier to announce Victoria’s promotion to Director of Events. Join us in congratulating her on this well-earned achievement.

Like a misplaced Oxford comma, one of the most important elements of great creative is also one of the most overlooked: great editing. Fortunately, MarCom Group excels at both. And with the addition of Caitlin Bowers, our newest Copy Editor, that tradition continues. With a background in copywriting and digital product content leadership, Caitlin brings an insider’s understanding and a writer’s precision to the editing process. As Caitlin explains: “Written content is such a good way to communicate because there’s a paper trail. You can track how ideas evolve. The proofreading aspect of it helps you make sure that everything’s on track and that everything’s clear.” Which is exactly why the final set of eyes matters. And why we’re so proud to have Caitlin helping us mind our Ps and Qs. And, of course, our Oxford commas. Welcome to the team, Caitlin.

Few people know the ins-and-outs of federal hiring better than MarCom Group’s Director of Federal Solutions, Joe Stix. With decades of experience spanning the U.S. Civil Service Commission, the Office of Personnel Management, and more than 20 years as a Project Director at MarCom Group, Joe has been on both sides of federal recruitment, writing the rules, overseeing the systems, and helping agencies adapt as those systems evolved. For a firsthand look at how we got here, and, more importantly — where federal hiring is headed next — don’t miss a single word of his blog: marcomgroup.com/newsandblogs.

CREATIVITY IS CONTAGIOUS Virtual creative conferences are convenient. But as Creative Director Steven Eson explains, nothing beats being there. In our latest blog, Steven writes why webinars and online trainings can’t replicate the shared energy, spontaneous connection, and immersive learning that happen in a room full of creatives brainstorming together. Read his blog marcomgroup.com/newsandblogs.

There’s hitting a deadline, and then there’s nailing it. Amanda Volpe, our newest copywriter, has built a reputation for the latter. “We want to tell what we need to tell, say what we need to say, but make it compelling.” From poetry to shaping brand voices in both B2C and B2B spaces, Amanda believes words should do more than fill space. She believes good copy must inform. It must engage. And above all, it must be relatable. “I think the main thing is not feeling like you’re being talked at, but talked to, an invitation to a bigger conversation.” Just the kind of authenticity you’ve come to expect from MarCom Group. Which is why we couldn’t be more pleased to add Amanda to our roster.
