Notwithstanding getting puked and pooped on before 7am, it was a fun Friday in the district! Talked about the need for affordable housing (and all housing!) at a @housingsanmateocounty policy breakfast, spoke about the desperate need for increasing our healthcare workforce at the exciting announcement of a new medical school via a partnership with @santaclarauniversity and @sutterhealth , and then attended the 31st annual @chamber.mv Celebration of Leaders and Athena Awards!
A belated but deeply heartfelt Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers, hopeful mothers, and mother figures who celebrated yesterday. It was Aimee’s first Mother’s Day, a really special day. Watching her be a mom to Kaiden for the last 9+ months has left me in awe of her limitless strength, energy, patience, and love. From the minute Kaiden was born, no matter what Aimee is going through, she has moved heaven and earth to care for him. Having a child hasn’t been easy - in fact, in many ways it has been hard - but Aimee has embraced the challenge with a strength and resolve I honestly did not know she had. And I am forever grateful.
It was great to welcome the 4th grade class from the Gideon Hausner Jewish Day School at the State Capitol this morning! They had great questions about our election process and my job as their Assemblymember!
Unfortunately California is facing a youth mental health crisis, but resources like allcove youth mental health centers provide vital care and services to support young people across the state.
It was great to meet with the allcove team and youth advocates today at the Capitol. I am proud to partner with Assemblymember Pellerin to champion funding to ensure allcove can continue to support our young people with these critical resources.
This morning I toured the Palo Alto Horizontal Levee project with Save The Bay and partners.
Not only will it protect against sea level rise and flooding, it will enhance the habitat for native species, improve recreational opportunities, and improve water quality from the Waste Water Treatment Plant into the Bay.
I celebrated Earth Month by hosting a Trail Talk this weekend at Shoreline Park in Mountain View!
It was great to connect with constituents in a more low-key way, learn a lot about ecological efforts in the district, get some steps in, and mostly avoid the rain. A fun morning and a great time had by all!
A great community coffee in Portola Valley this morning. I always appreciate our conversations on issues important to our communities and how we can find real solutions. Thank you to everyone who braved the rain to join us!
Tonight marks the first night of Passover, a story of community and liberation.
As we gather around the Seder table this evening, let us remember that we, the Jewish people, began our journey as “strangers in a strange land.”
May we be inspired by this story and recommit ourselves to the pursuit of freedom for all. Chag Sameach!
President Trump’s recent Executive Order to restrict mail-in voting is not only unconstitutional, but a blatant attack on our election system.
As the author of California’s universal vote-by mail law, I am appalled, but not surprised, by this president’s attempts to undermine our democracy and disenfranchise millions of voters.
In California, the story of the farmworker movement highlights the power of community voices to create change, and advance dignity and equity for all.
Today, we honor this movement and the vital contributions of farmworkers in my district and across the state, who are not only the backbone of the agriculture industry, but the heart of California.
Amazing turnout at our first AI Basics for Everyday Life Seminar — with over 750 constituents who signed up!
From learning how to spot AI generated content to learning more about how AI works, I hope everyone walked away with more confidence in understanding AI. Thank you to our amazing panelists for facilitating such an engaging presentation.
If you were not able to join us, or missed any part of the event, we have a recorded version of the seminar up on my website for you to watch or send to a friend!
