The level of detail on this linoleum print by Sarah Bogdal has to be seen in person to be believed. It's no wonder that this piece won the first place in our fine art category.
Ashes & Mist by Sarah Bogdal --- 1st place Fine Art
linoleum print on paper
24" x 18"
$650.00
JUDGE'S COMMENTS:
A narrative and composition of such scale and detail is seriously impressive. The figures and linear movements are engaging, and the execution of this linoleum print is pure perfection- it's a feast for the eyes and mind and makes me want to know more.
Please join us in congratulating the first-place winner in our photography category, Joseph Roach.
Achromatopsia by Joseph Roach
photo with digital additions
16" x 20"
$1,000
JUDGE'S COMMENTS:
The use of technology is so prevalent in today's photography. When someone transcends the kitsch and creates a engaging photo illustration like "color blindness", it realizes the true power of photography. The contrasts & play on words & drama of this image is profound.
ARTIST'S COMMENTS:
I see the world in layers. One eye holds logic and shadow, the other color and emotion. The fish represents inner vision truth beneath the surface. Being on the spectrum means seeing differently, deeply, and finding meaning where others see emptiness.

Regular visitors to the MAA will surely recognize photographer and board member, Fil Nenna.
Fil says, "The only time we look like we do in our passport photo is when our passport photo is being taken. Our faces look completely different when we are dirty, or tired, or after a haircut. Any portrait only shows one of our faces, and we have many."

The light effect and form in this painting is sublime. It radiates, making the viewer aware of the objects and the painter simultaneously. Every stroke is strategic and yet elegant. It's luscious and glowing, full of mastery and mystery.
