With tonight’s broadcast on Seattle’s NBC-affiliate KING 5, this chapter of Sports Star - the 91st year of this event and my 8th - will be effectively closed. It was an incredible year of sports across Washington state and we recognized some of the absolute best in their sport in history and in this moment in time. We also recognized people who are lifting others up through sports and those who help those stories get told. It’s always a lot of moving parts, a massive undertaking, and a time + brain drain - but this event is beautiful. My favorite part this year (as I tear up writing this) is that my Dad got to see me in my element.
Sports Star to me is about the human connection. And I got to share that with one of my favorite humans.
**Now he understands why I don’t sleep much from Dec-March
Thank you to all of the humans who make Sports Star happen - and for all of the humans who believe in sports as a mechanism for goodness, growth, belonging, strength, and joy.
The last 10 days have been filled with Kleenex boxes, fevers, body aches, and an overall terrible time, so you get dog photos. The week before that though? Amazing.
Moral of the story - flu is real, traveling is gross. But thank goodness for cute things and cake to pull me through.
2025 in 25(ish) snaps. A year of road trips, hard work, so many concerts, sports ball, back home again (in Indiana), and our 10-year wedding anniversary
Tasting Notes II with @kenjilopezalt photo dump. Soft “final hurrah” with @kathleenakay before she wraps her session in Seattle. World’s largest simultaneous chocolate tasting. Very on brand.
It was so nice to see the four corners at Lund & Bethel filled with people of all ages exercising their right to peacefully protest and use their voices (and clever signs). Happy to see this in Port Orchard!
