It's been a while! Our last post was Open Day back in November and what a beautiful day that was. Since then we’ve celebrated Christmas together, wrapped up for our long winter break, and last week… we were back. 💛 Back around the tables. Back creating. Back connecting. There’s something special about the first weeks back in the studio the conversations, the colour, the focus, the quiet joy of making. Here’s a glimpse of what’s been happening. More to come. 𝗙𝗲𝗲𝗹 𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆 🎖️ Presenting Allyson Hamblett KSM! Allyson is one of Māpura’s original artists and our Disability Advisor. She was awarded the King’s Service Medal (KSM) in June this year for her services to people with disabilities and the transgender community. A couple of weeks ago, on Friday 3rd October, the Governor-General of New Zealand, Dame Cindy Kiro, presented Allyson with her medal in a ceremony at Government House in Auckland. Allyson is a very deserving recipient. 🌀✨ 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗧𝘂𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆 ✨🌀 We’re going on a very exciting adventure in the time machine today - all the way back to 2010, our furthest venture into the past yet. Fifteen years ago, Falefatu ‘Fatu’ Enari did this fantastic artwork - 𝘊𝘰𝘸𝘣𝘰𝘺 𝘙𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘩. Look closely at the details. The cowboys are exquisitely depicted, and can you see the ghostly, or angelic, figure just behind them in the sky? Take a look at the horse, just a white outline but what a marvel. The town’s buildings capture the Old West perfectly, and the various browns that make up the background evoke the era like an old film. We don’t know exactly what materials Fatu used in 𝘊𝘰𝘸𝘣𝘰𝘺 𝘙𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘩 but it looks like acrylic paint pens and felts on top of an acrylic paint effect.
