New darkroom experiment from tonight! Played around with getting my hand wet and pressing it onto the silver gelatin paper. Scroll to see a first attempt which was lighter (print underexposed) and the hand was hard to see. I also had to figure out where to put the headstone in relation to the hand. Overall I’m happy with how it came out. And it’s always super fun to try stuff in the darkroom. Made with a negative taken on #kentmere400 film at Broad St cemetery and printed on #ilfordphoto silver gelatin rc paper.

Taken on @ilfordphoto hp-5 400 pushed up one stop to 800. Then hand printed by me @salemstate on @ilfordphoto multigrade pearl with a 2 filter which was perfect for the pushed film. I’m also obsessed with the filed out carrier which is new to me and made by @kim_mimnaugh ‘s brother (thanks Bruce!)

We have a last minute opening in the darkroom class I teach at SSU. First class was tonight but the price can be prorated for next class.
Deets-
Classes are Wednesdays from 6-9 and run from 9/10-12/10 with no class Thanksgiving weekend.
Cost is $400 and includes chemical fee.
This class is for adults not day students and I’m there to provide instruction if needed but students can work independently as well.

Here’s me completely geeking out at the #paaconstellation exhibit. Diane Arbus has always been and will always be my favorite so I had to sneak off to NYC for the day just to see it. It felt immersive to be surrounded by her art, like just diving into a sea of how she viewed everyone. I especially enjoyed some of the prints that were printed in the rectangular format before she switched to square. I hadn’t seen some of these before and to see them in person was awesome.

Most people think of color film when they think of nature photography. However there is a different way your brain processes color images vs black and white. When the image is taken/shown in black and white your brain processes things like shape and texture first as opposed to processing color first.
So I love to lean into black and white nature photos!
This one was taken with @ilfordphoto HP-5 and processed and printed by me on rc pearl paper in the darkroom @salemstate .

In March, we were the first car in line @joshuatreenps when the park ranger blocked the road for a helicopter rescue. What an amazing thing to see up close. The rescue was a success and the hiker was okay. You can see all the dust on the left side of the road from the helicopter blades and yes that is someone standing outside the door while they’re landing. Taken on @ilfordphoto hp-5 400 with my nikkormat and printed in the darkroom @salemstate on 8x10 @ilfordphoto rc pearl. Fresh out of the print wash in the darkroom! From my absolute fave cemetery with the absolute best death’s head stones. Looook how amazing the new @ilfordphoto kentmere 200 prints up! I hadn’t seen many silver gelatin prints from the new kentmere 200 negatives so I was super excited to get into the darkroom and make a print.
It prints beautifully! Very smooth transition from lights to darks and even though it has excellent contrast it’s more of a delicate balance than the hp-5. I will absolutely be shooting and printing more of this film.
This is taken on my @leica_camera m3 and printed on @ilfordphoto 5x7 MGRC developed in @ilfordphoto multigrade paper developer.
