A beautiful mess • As part of the #MapchaCraftSeries, we spent time with Tashi Lhazes in Leh, Ladakh last September, and learned quickly that she works on her own schedule.
Working with high-altitude sheep wool, the fibre is first cleaned and spun into yarn before being woven by hand on traditional backstrap looms. In these videos, Tashi is seen at her loom making #Mapcha shawls from undyed yarn, unhurried and precise, shaping each piece from panel to fringe entirely by hand.
A craft that doesn’t negotiate with impatience. Hers or ours.
