Yesterday we welcomed clients and collaborators to our studio for our Spring Party. It was an opportunity to celebrate the new season and reconnect with some of our industry friends.
The studio was filled with buzzing conversations and more friendly faces than usual! We’re grateful to work with talented collaborators and great clients. Thank you to everyone who joined us, we’re already looking forward to our next one, when we celebrate turning 10 in 2027!
We are super excited to announce that Helen and James have both recently been promoted to Associate Architects at MAP!
Since joining us in 2022, Helen has continued to play a key role in our Education, Residential and Cultural sectors. Our in-house Passivhaus and EnerPHit champion, we really value the experience and sustainability knowledge she brings to projects. Helen remains an ever-friendly face and consistently contributes to the positivity and culture of our team.
James has been a keen contributor to MAP’s development, ethos, and structure since joining us in 2018. James’ can-do attitude, and constant drive to push forward both the practice and projects, makes working with him inspiring. He has worked across a broad range of projects, and is a valued member of our Housing and Private Homes sectors.
Helen and James, congratulations again on this well-deserved achievement!
Planning permission has been granted for the conversion of three floors of disused office space within a prominent town-centre building in Windsor into 16 apartments, some with views towards Windsor Castle.
The scheme introduces upgraded glazing, additional opening windows and a new mansard rooflight, alongside thermal improvements to the walls and roof. These light-touch upgrades improve daylight, ventilation and energy performance while respecting the character of the existing 1980s building.
We’re pleased to see this project moving forward!
We’re pleased to share that planning permission and Listed Building Consent have been granted for works across multiple buildings at the City of London Cemetery and Crematorium.
The project involves the sensitive refurbishment and restoration of seven buildings (five of which are Grade II listed) within the Grade I listed City of London Cemetery and Crematorium landscape, which opened in 1856.
Our proposals focus on the careful repair and improvement of chapels, crematoria, catacombs, offices and workshop buildings across the site. The works address long-standing maintenance issues through targeted fabric repairs, internal refurbishment and upgrades to staff facilities, helping to ensure these important buildings remain in active use for years to come. Mechanical and electrical upgrades are also being implemented throughout the buildings, with a strong focus on improving user comfort and enhancing the sustainability and efficiency of the site’s building services.
At the Modern Crematorium, designed by E.G. Chandler and built in 1971, there will be careful cleaning and refurbishment of the notable concrete and glazed faceted walls and internal spaces, alongside significant upgrades to the mechanical and electrical systems. Pioneering energy systems will be introduced which retain and reused waste heat from the cremators to heat and cool the building.
Sustainability has been a key driver throughout the project, with the design prioritising the repair and retention of existing building fabric, improvements to thermal performance and the optimisation of existing building services.
We’re honoured to be working within such a significant historic landscape and look forward to seeing the project progress on site.
We’re excited that planning permission has been granted for our project at Walters Way in South London. The project involves a ground floor extension and over-cladding of the main façade to improve the thermal performance of the property. This is our second project to receive planning permission on the iconic Walter Segal self-build street ‘Walters Way’ in Lewisham!
Externally, our proposal focuses on maintaining the legibility of the original Walter Segal grid with a subtle cladding batten that keeps the panelling rhythm of the original façade.
Internally the project provides the family more space and flexibility, whilst respecting the character of the original building. The design introduces a new entrance to improve the arrival sequence and reconfigures the ground floor to create a generous living and dining space that will open out on to the decked terrace and garden.
Stay tuned for more updates once we’re on site!
And the learning continues for the students who walk through daily at our South London School Entrance Pavilion!
During the build, elements of the soffit cassette system were deliberately left exposed as a permanent additional teaching resource.
The structure was delivered using bespoke prefabricated timber cassettes which allowed the speedy build with minimal disruption to the school day. Students observed the rapid on-site assembly of the prefabricated structure, gaining insight into modern construction methods.
Long live learning!

We are delighted that our School Pavilion has been Shortlisted for the Modern Methods of Construction Awards in the Category: Project of the Year – Education (Early Years and Primary).
Its parabolic roof is a defining feature for the school, shaping the identity of the entrance and creating a memorable sense of arrival.
These wider views show the pavilion nestled within its green surroundings, and the green roof as an extension of this.
Swipe for the aerial photo which captures the views for visitors arriving at the school through the new entrance lodge. What a first impression!

“Sometimes the construction method can hinder creativity….this project has shown anything is possible. ”
@map_architecture 's statement entrance for @alleynsschool shows how digital design and manufacturing can open up opportunities for schools to realise complex, site-specific architecture that might otherwise feel too risky, costly or unpredictable to deliver.
Watch the video to see the project coming together on site, and learn how @blok_build ’s advanced approach to off-site construction gives architects greater design freedom while keeping the build process controlled and reliable 👌

@map_architecture ’s entrance canopy for @alleynsschool acts as a beacon, marking arrival into a space shaped by innovative teaching and climate awareness.
From the street it reads as a simple pitched roof, then shifts into a twisting form that opens toward the heart of the school. The geometry bridges the character of Alleyn’s heritage buildings with the contemporary approach they take to teaching their students.
Delivering the complex design in a tight timeframe on a sensitive site was made possible using @blok_build 's digitally manufactured cassette system.

Due to some recent press enquiries, we have been revisiting our Creek Cabin project and were reminded of how beautiful this house and its surroundings are 🌄
Creek Cabin sits within an internationally-recognised, RAMSAR-designated wetland and Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the Suffolk Broads and enjoys spectacular views over the creek to the north, reedbeds to the west, and distant views along the River Blythe valley towards Southwold town and harbour. The site is in a bowl in the landscape, defined by a steep bank, so the panoramic views are complemented by a cosy garden, sheltered from the wind with a variation of flat and banks.
It was very important for our clients that this house be built to very high sustainability standards and largely self-sufficient and they believed that individuals’ contributions to the transition to a low-emissions future are as important as governments’.
Beautiful autumnal views in our Stoke Newington residential refurb! 😍🌞
The project involved the renovation of the existing ground floor flat, adding a dining room extension and a series of sustainable upgrades (including the installation of a Heat Pump, making use of the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant.)
We love how fresh and cosy and creative the space feels now.
