It’s funny, I’ve been an artist my whole life, but have spent almost 28 years trying every kind of art besides the kind of art my mom does 🤔. I’ve been an animator, a cartoonist, a fibers sculptor, a photographer, an illustrator, and printer, but it’s only in the last year or so that I’ve picked up a brush and given landscapes and plein air a proper go. And lo and behold, something has clicked into place!
Painting makes me happy, and to share that with my mom is the most special thing. Watching her creative journey so far has been incredible; her achievements are actually gargantuan. Over the years she’s participated in a myriad of plein air festivals, earned countless awards, taught hundreds of students, added to her ever-growing collection of striking works, I could go on and on. Though her accomplishments are impressive, I’m most continuously inspired by a motto she has always embodied:
Appreciate the little things.
Despite it making me considerably slower on walks, I am SO lucky to have been taught to notice the tiny beauties in life: the light refractions from flower petals on the bellies of bees, the rainbow of colors in what should be the whitest snow, the sparkles in crashing waves.… it’s been a lifetime of “look at how purple that shadow is!” and “look at that juicy highlight on that cake” and “do you want to look through my sunglasses? The water is so blue!”. My mom has not just inspired my painting, she has shaped how my eyes interpret the world and how they communicate with my heart. For that, I am forever lucky and forever delighted 😌
On this first Mother’s Day without my Mom I realize how much she still shapes the decisions I make, how I face the world, and how I look at things, following in her steps, as she always found ways to make everything more special and to find the beauty in people, nature, the little things, and life in general. Cheers to her and to all the amazing mothers in my life, on top of the list my friend Jodi whom I’m spending the weekend with. How wonderful it is to see our kids grow up together! 🌸💕
“All About That Bass”, gouache, the last one in the trilogy inspired by an incredible performance by Yvette Norwood Tiger and her jazz musicians at the Kravis Center in Palm Beach. Who knew that musicians would make such great models? Art inspiring art. 🎨 🎶 💫 I’m happy that this series was acquired by a musician who felt a connection to this little gems.
Another little gouache inspired by a @ynorwoodtiger jazz performance I attended several months ago at the @kraviscenter . I was thrilled to meet Yvette in person last weekend when she treated us to a performance at @saltbirdjupiter . Yvette is as lovely as her music. 🩷 🎶
Please enjoy this time lapse as well as the music of the talented Yvette Norwood-Tiger, which inspired me to capture her soulful jazz musicians in a series of gouache paintings. I attended her concert not too long ago at the @kraviscenter in West Palm Beach, where her jazzy vocals as well as the incredible musicality and skill of her musicians left a deep impression on me.
I donated a private class to the annual fundraiser of the Lighthouse ArtCenter, and what fun we had painting some yummy cherries! Thank you, @suzannemanzi , for sharing the class with your friends. I had a blast spending the morning with all of you! 🍒❤️🎨🍾💫
One week, 22 artists, 274 brand-new paintings that we brought into existence during the Winter Park Paint Out 2026 at @polasekmuseum ! Enjoy a stroll through the glamorous Garden Party, the big finale. A big thank you to Tamie, Hal, Jennifer, staff, volunteers, my lovely hosts, the town of Winter Park, which is always so welcoming, and of course the collectors who came out in droves, acquiring so many paintings. For me it really is the biggest compliment when an art lover wants to acquire one of my paintings to enjoy in their home daily. Available paintings will still be sold throughout May on the Polasek Museum’s website:/artists-and-artwork/, so check it out!
My very last painting for the Winter Park Paint Out: Sometimes you show up at a location and your perfect subject is waiting for you, making your heart make a little leap of joy! Check out this cute VW bus/flower stand, @posiesflowertruck_winterpark . I loved painting at the farmers ’ market but also watching how many people picked out gorgeous flower stems to enjoy at home. “Mixed Bouquet”, 8 x 10” oil, available.
Another glorious day at @polasekmuseum ‘s Winter Park Paint Out! Kraft Azalea Gardens never disappoints, and the clouds later in the day, when I painted with several artists in the museum’s garden, were spectacular and ever changing. “Lakeside Hideout”, 10 x 10” oil, available through the Polasek Museum.
It’s nice when you walk out the door and are being hit by inspiration at the end of the driveway. My lovely hosts’ neighbors have get perfect morning light in their porch, and so I went over there and asked if I could set up on their lawn. “Morning Glory”, 12 x 12”, oil, available through @polasekmuseum in Winter Park, FL. What a great week this is!! ☀️
