DAY 9 WIP : In Praise of Color (Purple, Pink, & White), An Homage to Wolf Kahn, 2024/2025, 96”H X 60”W, Vitreous a acrylic and latex enamel on canvas. Wolf Kahn, in my opinion America’s greatest Colorist Artist, did not have an “admitted” single favorite color….but his prolific use of the many different shades and saturations of the color purple, plus ALL the accretive complimentary colors was probably, by unit count, his most prolific quantitative choice of colors used in his professional oeuvre.. I am a great believer in the power of music and art to be highly synergistic. In that regard i chose my favorite happy and inspirational Italian song VOLARE to pair with this painting. Wolf Kahn & Emily Mason loved Italy, and traveled there annually. Indeed they were married there! To that end, i would like to disclose that every second i have spent, and will spend painting this work i have had this fantastic song playing on a “roll” again and and again and again. When i close my eyes…it feels like Wolfie is on my Studio Couch, watching, singing along and laughing: VOLARE: Oh oh, GONZALES, oh oh a oh; Nel Blu Di Pinto Del Blu! Yes, Yes, YESSSS!
