He heard all my stories and didn’t laugh at any of my jokes. He was there for my divorce, my kids growing up, my university days, my heartaches and every single one of my bad days. So, so many bad days. Too many for one cat to carry. Too many for anyone. But he did it anyway. And right to the end, he was there for me.
Datchi was vocal and sassy and filled with the right kind of catitude. He yelled at me often and loved nothing more than ‘bed bed’, where he’d purr for hours.
I’m not sure what my life looks like without him in it. He listened to me cry for 20 years. He was more than just a cat. So much more.
Sleep well, precious boy, your watch is complete.

Manna Clarke is a marine scientist turned fantasy and science-fiction writer who currently calls Queensland home. A fantasy lover at heart, Manna’s bookshelf contains many other genres, and they influences her writing in several different ways. Her writing style combines fantasy and science fiction with action, mystery and suspense and a sprinkling of romance that binds her stories together. In her spare time, Manna enjoys getting chaotic during early morning DnD sessions and resisting the urge to buy more books.
Her novel ‘And In The Beginning’ is the first of a trilogy that spans galaxies and wreaks havoc with history as we know it. She is also working on a connected universe that will bring her love of dragons to life!

A year ago, I was finishing the first draft of my book House of Death and Shadow. I had no concept of self-publishing. No understanding of my options.
But the indie author community I encountered (especially on Threads) gave me the courage to self publish my book. The support I received, the encouragement, the information...it all helped so much.
I stumbled onto this event for a February event, and I made friends along the way. Authors who I still chat with regularly.
I love this community. I love these people's stories even if I haven't read all of them.
I want to do what I can to shout their books (and mine) from the rooftops.
